Southwesterners Bob and Rhonda Johnson have some good advice for people who are called to plant a church. Read their story here:

Bob serves as pastor of Grace Point Church in San Diego, while Rhonda leads the women’s and discipleship programs and oversees the children’s ministry. The couple started the church shortly after graduating in 1991 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Old Testament and biblical backgrounds scholar K. Lawson Younger is joining the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary faculty as a senior professor, leading a doctoral seminar in the spring and teaching a master’s level course in the summer of 2027.

“What a privilege it is to welcome Lawson Younger to the Southwestern community,” said President David S. Dockery. “He is one of the premier evangelical Old Testament scholars of the past 30 years, and certainly one of the very best scholars in the area of biblical backgrounds.”

The Recreation and Aerobics Center (RAC) on the campus unveiled and celebrated renovations with a ribbon-cutting event today, showcasing the new equipment in the weight and cardio rooms and a new floor for the basketball court.

“We are priviledged to dedicate this facility to the glory of God,” President David S. Dockery said.

Chancellor O. S. Hawkins reminded the seminary community today that no matter how little believers may feel like they have to offer, God can multiply it for His purposes when it is surrendered to Him.

"Whatever it is that we try to fill the void of life with, without Christ factored in the equation the cry is going to be ‘not enough. Just a little bit more,’” said Chancellor O.S. Hawkins.
