🧭 Calling all adventurers…

This summer, I’m heading out on a real expedition to Petrified Forest National Park!

This marks my second Dinosaur Expedition in a row—this summer I will be exploring the Triassic, following last year’s Jurassic expedition in the deserts of Utah.

We’ll be working in Triassic layers, uncovering fossils from long ago—some of the earliest dinosaurs like Coelophysis, alongside incredible creatures like aetosaurs, rauisuchids, and other ancient reptiles that once ruled the land before dinosaurs took over.

This is a time when the world looked very different… when dinosaurs were just beginning their story.

There is something powerful about stepping out of the classroom and into the field—where history isn’t just studied… it’s discovered.

I’ll be bringing this adventure back to Bannworth Academy, sharing every moment with our students as we continue to learn the way explorers were meant to—through discovery, courage, and curiosity.

Continuing the Bannworth Mission

🦙🦴 An Antediluvian Discovery in the Field 🦴🦙

Today, while serving in the field with the Florida Museum of Natural History in partnership with the University of Florida, I had the privilege of uncovering a scientifically significant fossil: the toe growth plate (epiphyseal plate) of an extinct North American camelid.

This specimen likely belongs to a llama-like camelid such as Hemiauchenia or Palaeolama, members of the camel family (Camelidae) that once inhabited what is now Florida. These were not modern domestic llamas (Lama glama), but ancient relatives preserved in the fossil record.

From a Biblical worldview, fossils such as these are understood as remnants of the antediluvian world — meaning the world that existed before the great worldwide Flood described in Genesis. “Antediluvian” simply means “before the Flood.” Scripture tells us that the pre-Flood earth was very different from the world we know today. The global Flood was a catastrophic event that reshaped landscapes, buried ecosystems, and preserved countless organisms in sediment layers.

The preserved growth plate is especially meaningful because it tells scientists:

• The individual was juvenile and still growing
• The animal had not yet reached skeletal maturity
• This region supported a reproducing population
• Entire herds once lived and thrived here

Juvenile fossils provide insight into population structure and ecological stability. They remind us that these animals were not isolated wanderers but part of living communities in a vibrant, pre-Flood environment.

Many are surprised to learn that camel-like animals once lived in North America, including Florida. Discoveries like this deepen our understanding of the richness of the antediluvian world and the dramatic geological processes associated with the Flood.

Since 2015, it has been my honor to dig alongside the Florida Museum of Natural History, carefully documenting and preserving pieces of earth’s history. Each fossil is a testimony that the ground beneath our feet holds the record of a world forever changed.

Science, when practiced carefully and honestly, allows us to study the evidence. Faith gives us the framework to understand its ultimate meaning.

Today was a humbling reminder that the stones cry out with history. 🦴
