🎉 Help Us Welcome Coach Justin to Back in Motion! 💪

We’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Back in Motion Fitness & Performance team — Coach Justin Shumway!

Originally from Pennsylvania, Justin brings 7+ years of personal training and group fitness experience, working with everyone from young athletes to adults in their 90s.

He is a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, CPR & AED certified through the Red Cross, and has a strong background in:

🏋️ Strength & functional fitness
⚡ Athletic development & performance
🏀 High school & collegiate basketball coaching
💪 Helping people of all ages move, feel, and perform better

But what really makes Justin a great fit for Back in Motion is why he coaches.

After overcoming his own health challenges, Justin decided to turn his passion for health and fitness into a career helping others.

His goal is simple: help people move better, get stronger, and live longer through movement.

That fits perfectly with what we believe at Back in Motion — helping people stay active, independent, and feeling their best without relying on surgery or dangerous drugs.

Outside of coaching, you’ll usually find Justin lifting weights, training for his next athletic event, spending time with his wife and their dachshund, Joey 🐶, or soaking up some Florida sunshine at the beach. ☀️

Justin is currently accepting clients, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on the team.

👇 Drop a comment below and help us give Coach Justin a big Back in Motion welcome!

A woman came to see me recently and said something I hear more often than you might think:

“I’ve started avoiding intimacy because I’m afraid it’s going to hurt.”

She loved her partner. That wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that intimacy had gone from something that felt natural and connecting… to something she worried about beforehand.

Would it hurt?

Would she tense up?

Would she have to stop?

Eventually, it became easier to avoid it altogether.

And that started affecting more than just intimacy.

She told me she didn’t feel like herself anymore.

When we started talking through everything, one of the biggest things I wanted her to understand was this:

Pain with intimacy isn’t something you should simply accept or be embarrassed to talk about.

Pelvic floor problems can involve much more than one “tight” or “weak” muscle. We look at how the pelvic floor is working with breathing, pressure, the hips, core, movement, and the rest of the body.

Once we began identifying what was contributing to her symptoms and addressing those pieces, something changed.

She started trusting her body again.

And eventually, intimacy stopped being something she feared.

That’s the part people don’t talk about enough.

Pelvic floor physical therapy isn’t only about leaking or pelvic pain.

Sometimes it’s about helping a woman feel comfortable, confident, connected, and like herself again.

▶️ Watch Dr. Fernanda tell this patient’s story and explain how pelvic floor physical therapy helped her get back to feeling like herself again.

This month, we’re celebrating Ricci as our Client of the Month.

Ricci’s journey has been about so much more than getting stronger physically. It’s been about rebuilding confidence, trusting herself again, and feeling more in control of what her body can do.

She’s shown up, stayed consistent, challenged herself, and kept moving forward — even when it wasn’t easy.

And that work is paying off.

She’s stronger.
She’s more confident.
And she’s proving to herself just how capable she really is.

Ricci, we’re so proud of the progress you’ve made and the commitment you continue to bring. It’s been amazing to watch you step into this stronger, more confident version of yourself.

Congratulations on being our Client of the Month — you’ve earned it.

🦵 What happens when your knee is moving TOO much?

In this video, Dr. Scott Gray works with a patient who had been dealing with knee pain—and shows exactly what we found during the evaluation.

The patient had tibiofemoral hypermobility, meaning there was excessive movement and rotation occurring at the knee joint.

You can even see it with something as simple as crossing their legs.

Instead of getting the rotation they needed from the hip joint, they were creating more of that movement through the knee joint.

And that’s a problem.

Your knee needs movement—but it also needs stability and control.

When the hip isn’t contributing enough and the knee continually picks up the extra motion, it can place repeated stress on the structures around the knee and contribute to pain.

So simply stretching the knee, strengthening randomly, or treating where it hurts may not be enough.

We need to figure out why the knee is moving excessively in the first place—then improve hip mobility and control while building better stability at the knee.

🎥 Watch Dr. Scott demonstrate what this looks like with a real patient.

This is what we mean when we talk about finding and fixing the cause of pain—not just chasing the symptoms.

🚨 One of the BIGGEST misconceptions about pelvic floor therapy?

That it’s only for urinary incontinence.

While bladder leakage is absolutely something we treat, pelvic floor physical therapy can help with so much more.

In this quick video, Dr. Fernanda Paulsen explains how pelvic floor dysfunction can also contribute to things like:

* Pelvic pain or pressure
* Pain with exercise or everyday movement
* Difficulty returning to activity after pregnancy
* Core weakness
* Bowel dysfunction
* Pain with intimacy
* A feeling of heaviness or prolapse

And unfortunately, many women live with these symptoms for months—or even years—because they assume they’re something they simply have to deal with.

You don’t have to wait until you’re leaking urine to see a pelvic floor physical therapist.

🎥 Watch this quick video from Dr. Fernanda to learn more about what pelvic floor therapy actually treats—and how the right treatment can help you get back to moving, exercising, and living with more confidence.

“I was skeptical because I had already tried everything…”

Jose had been to other physical therapists.

He tried chiropractic care.

He tried massage.

But nothing gave him the lasting results he was looking for.

When Jose came to Back in Motion, he wasn’t sure we would be any different—and honestly, we couldn’t blame him.

Instead of only treating where he hurt, we used the Gray Method™ to evaluate how his entire body moved and uncover the underlying causes of his problems.

Today, Jose no longer struggles with shoulder pain or shin splints. He can finally move and stay active without constantly worrying about the pain returning.

If you’ve tried multiple treatments without getting the results you wanted, don’t give up.

You may not need more of the same treatment.

You may need someone to finally identify and address the real cause.

▶️ Watch Jose’s video to hear him share his experience and results in his own words!

This is what getting Back in Motion looks like. 💙

When Bernie came to Dr. Sharon, he was dealing with problems involving his knee, foot, ankle, and hip.

Instead of treating each area separately, Dr. Sharon looked at how everything was connected. She identified the underlying weaknesses related to his original knee injury and created a personalized plan to address them.

Here’s what Bernie had to say:

“Dr. Sharon is extremely knowledgeable. She identified the issues I was having with my foot, ankle, and hip—and how they were all related to my knee injury. She not only helped my knee but also identified other weak areas that needed attention. I have been working with her since then and am feeling better. It’s also very important to follow her instructions and complete the exercises at home.”

We’re proud of Bernie’s hard work and commitment to getting stronger, feeling better, and getting Back in Motion with the Gray Method™!
