Your next belt is not something you chase. It is something you earn by forgetting to chase it. S When promotion becomes the goal, everything changes and not for the better. You stop experimenting. You start performing. You compare yourself to those around you instead of celebrating them. And somewhere along the way, the joy of actually learning jiu jitsu quietly slips away.
The grapplers who grow the fastest are not the ones thinking about what they deserve. They are the ones who show up every day, put in the work, absorb the knowledge, and trust that the belt will reflect that when the time is right.
Stop obsessing over the destination. Fall in love with the process. Swipe through to see exactly how that obsession might be holding you back.

Big day at the academy. A huge thank you to for taking the time to share his game with our crew.
It’s one thing to learn from someone who’s well known in the community. It’s another to watch them break down their game in a way that actually clicks.
A few takeaways from the seminar:
• The details are what separate good from great. Small adjustments in grips, angles, and timing change everything.
• Concepts travel further than techniques. Understanding the why behind a move means you can apply it across positions.
• High level jiu-jitsu isn’t more complicated, it’s more refined. Less wasted motion, more intent behind every movement.
What stood out the most was how down to earth he was. He didn’t just teach and leave. He stayed on the mat, answered questions, and rolled with as many of our athletes as he could.
Grateful for the time, the knowledge, and the rolls. Opportunities like this are why we love being part of this community.
Thanks again Shawn Doors are open anytime.

The Dirty 930 at City of Palms.
No egos on the mat this morning — just people willing to put in the work next to each other.
That’s the whole thing, really. You show up, you learn something, you help the person across from you get better too.
Safe travels back north, Dan. Grateful you rolled with us while you were here. Always a seat on the mat for you when you’re back.

Losing is not the opposite of winning.
Avoiding it is. 🥋
Every loss you have ever taken has taught you something a win never could.
It exposed what needed work, tested how you respond under pressure, and gave you a choice — walk away or come back hungrier.
The competitors who grow the fastest are not the ones who win the most. They are the ones who refuse to let a loss be the last word.
It is not the wins that shape who you become. It is the losses you refused to quit after.
As long as you keep getting back on that mat, you cannot lose.
Swipe through and let this one pay you back. ➡️

The best grappler in the room isn’t always the one with the most stripes on their belt — it’s the one everyone wants to train with. 🤝
How you show up for your training partners says everything about where you are in your journey. Using your knowledge to elevate others, being consistent enough to be counted on, and leaving your ego at the door aren’t just good habits — they’re what separates good training partners from great ones.
Jiu jitsu is a shared experience. The more intentional you are about how you show up for the people around you, the better the room gets. And when the room gets better, so do you.
Swipe through and share this with someone in your gym who embodies this — or someone who needs to hear it. ➡️

Most people wait until they’re “ready” to compete. The truth? You never feel ready — and that’s exactly why you should sign up. 🥋
The nerves before your first match. The training that gets serious the moment you register. The pressure of standing across from someone who wants to submit you just as badly as you want to submit them. That discomfort isn’t something to avoid — it’s the whole point.
Every round in the gym where nothing is on the line only takes you so far. Competition is where real growth lives. It exposes the gaps in your game, tests your mental toughness, and forces you to become someone your old self couldn’t have been.
Win or lose, you walk off that mat a different grappler than when you walked on. Swipe through to see exactly why competing changes everything. ➡️

A lot of people think competition problems start on competition day.
They don’t.
They start in the training room.
Avoiding hard rounds.
Staying in your A-game.
Chasing submissions instead of building position.
It might feel like progress…
Until the match puts you somewhere
you didn’t prepare for.
As we say in the room:
Don’t get lost in the chaos.
Stay disciplined.
Stick to your plan.
Build your positions first.
That’s what holds up when it matters.
