is hosting weekly presentations to help educate our community about the many Disability Services Goodwill SWFL has to offer and this week was no exception!

Through our partnership with FGCU, Occupational Therapy students who previously completed their fieldwork experience with us helped facilitate this speaking engagement at the university, sharing valuable information about the programs, resources, and support available through Goodwill SWFL.

A little word can make a BIG difference. 💕

Our Jewelry Making Class is putting creativity and kindness together with special these Little Words Project Kindness Wins bracelet activities! Participants are designing their own bracelets while choosing words that encourage, inspire, and remind us of the power our words can have.

Each bracelet may be small, but the message behind it is BIG: kindness matters, words matter, and what we put out into the world matters. 💛✨

We can’t wait to see the meaningful pieces they create and the little words they choose to carry with them! 💕📿

Sometimes the most powerful images of inclusion actually don’t look so extraordinary at first glance. This just looks like two of the fellas on the golf course giving a handshake but there’s so much more happening in this moment!

For many people with super 🤩 abilities, opportunities to naturally build friendships with others doesn’t happen as often as it should. Sometimes their “friends” can easily become limited to family members, caregivers, instructors, support staff, or others with disabilities, not because they don’t desire more friendships, but because our communities don’t always create spaces where those relationships can just happen organically. So that’s part of what makes our community events and the initiatives we choose for PTO so vital and meaningful!

For this annual golf camp YES our participants are learning a sport that has historically carried a certain level of prestige, tradition, and exclusivity. ⛳️ So for our demographic to be welcomed onto the course, learn the game, develop the skills, and belong in that space REALLY matters. But what’s even more important are the moments that have nothing to do with a golf club…

The conversations & jokes ✅
The encouragement & kind words ✅
The high fives & cheers ✅
The beginning of a friendship between two people who may never have crossed paths otherwise. ✅

Inclusion shouldn’t only exist inside programs created specifically for people with IDD. It should exist on golf courses, shopping malls, in workplaces, on runways, at restaurants, in neighborhoods, movie theaters, at community events and in the everyday friendships we form along the way.

See, this isn’t a picture of a volunteer playing partner and one of our superstar participants… this is just two of the fellas out on the course… and that’s exactly the point! 💙✅
