Founded on April 16, 1955, Zeta Rho Omega chapter is the oldest and largest chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Broward County, Florida.
The idea of chartering a local, Fort Lauderdale chapter began with the vision of 14 young women. These young women were led by Willard Lamar who had the initial idea of forming a chapter. The aspiring local group worked for approximately one year organizing, finding enough members to charter and completing other necessary requirements to become a chapter. According to the CDC, 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with a mental health condition. Yet stigma, lack of access, and cultural barriers keep millions from seeking care.

Congratulations to Dedrick Reaves, the winner of the AKAdemic Foundation’s 60/40 Fundraiser!
This year’s fundraiser generated more than $57,000. As the winner, Dedrick will walk away with almost $23,000!
Dedrick contributed his winning ticket to support our Sister Tonya Burk’s campaign and was so shocked when he found out (see last slide).
Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser for such a worthy cause. Your generosity helps fund scholarships and supports the impactful community initiatives of the AKAdemic Foundation.
