Lauderdale YC Sailing

On Friday, we had our annual Spring Sailing Banquet! Here is a glimpse into our night celebrating these sailors!🌞

LYC hosted the annual Boomerang Regatta March 3-5 for Opti Green Fleet, Opti RWB, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6’s on two separate courses. Here’s a recap of how the LYC Sailors did!

Opti Green Fleet:
Overall top Green Fleet Sailor and yellow division’s 1st 🥇 place was won by LYC’s Jackson Jagusztyn with 4 bullets and 12 races! Closely behind Jackson was Connor Cylke placing 3rd 🥉 in the green division, and Liam Kandt 4th in the yellow division!

Opti RWB:
Isabel Veiga placed 4th in the blue fleet out of 49 sailors with Amelie Mudry closely behind in 6th! Benjamin White placed in the top 10 for LYC in the red fleet! Luisa Neumann placed 2nd🥈 in the white fleet with Dennis Fiadzkou closely behind!

ILCA 4:
Danielle Smith placed 2nd overall🥈for the ILCA 4’s!

ILCA 6:
Kai Vurno finished Boomerang in 1st 🥇 with 2 bullets followed by Caleb Kinnear in 2nd 🥈! Matthew Diaz, River Keysers, Lucy Meagher, and Sophia Debs all finished in the top 10!

We are proud of how all our LYC sailors preformed at our home event! Let’s go LYC!!!

Congratulations are in order for Cody Roe and KJ Hill for winning the Nacra 15 World Championships!!! Also, congratulations to Brooke Mertz and Connor Mertz for placing 3rd in the U19 Division, and Matthew St. Romain and Cole Fanchi for placing 3rd in the U16 Division! We are so proud of all of you! Let’s go LYC🎉

Day 3 and final day of racing for the 2023 US Open Sailing Series Fort Lauderdale!

LYC had a great showing this year! In ILCA 4’s we had a fourth place finish from Jake Taubman. In ILCA 6’s we had a first place finish and top girl from Erika Reineke, a second place finish from Peter Barnard, and a fourth place finish from Jake Homberger. In ILCA 7’s we had a first place finish from Chapman Petersen and a second place finish from Robby Meek. In Nacra 15’s we had a first place from KJ Hill and skipper Cody Roe, third place finish from Brooke and skipper Connor Mertz, fourth for Matt St. Romain and skipper Cole Fanchi, and fifth for Allie and skipper Matheo Capasso.

Way to go LYC! We are SO proud of you and all your hard work!

Day 2 of the 2023 US Open Sailing Series Fort Lauderdale called for only one race for the ILCA’s and two races for the Nacras

Breeeeeeezy first day of the 2023 US Open Sailing Series Ft. Lauderdale for the ILCA Fleet!

Here’s a quick little recap of Orange Bowl Regatta 2022 for our ILCA fleet!

LYC won the Team Trophy for the overall best team at the regatta with coaches Erik Bowers, Sophia Reineke, Erika Reineke, and Daniel Escudero!

Peter Barnard, an LYC ILCA 6 sailor came in 1st overall in his fleet with Jake Homberger, Amaya Escudero, Teddy Martin, and Connor McHugh all behind him in the top 10!

Ben Sheppard came in 1st overall in the ILCA 7 Fleet!

Danielle Smith finished in the top 10 in the ILCA 4s!

What a solid way for LYC’s ILCA program to finish the Fall 2022 season!
