Mining gems on Topaz Mountain was so clutch.
If you want to elevate your rockhounding adventures, Topaz Mountain is it. From the drive to the climb, every moment is exciting. There are so many gems to find. From amethyst to pseudobrookite, opal, topaz to red beryl. Red beryl is one of the rarest gems in the world!

Topaz Mountain Tips:
1. The summer is brutal asf-be prepared. Water, water, water.
HYDRATE
2. The climb is challenging.
The higher the easier to find crystal.
Go up at least 300-600 feet.
3. Bring dark containers because the sherry Topaz color will fade to clear in sunlight.
4. We found that starting later in the day was easier r/t the heat. The sun sets in the west- the dome faces southeast. It was significantly cooler once the sun was behind the mountain.
5. lf you go with older children, and they explore on their own-use a Walkie Talkie. There is no cellular connection on the mountain.
6. Camping is available at the mountain.
7. There is 1 portapotty available
before your direct drive to the public Rockhound area.
8. There are 2 areas to collect.
One area has a fee, the other is free.

I just booked my flight to my solve for one of JCB’s hidden treasure boxes. I’m geeked! Be on the lookout for posts documenting my journey as I search for these treasure boxes hidden within the continental U.S.

This is THE largest national treasure hunt in U.S. history. It’s exciting to know that I’m playing a part in this history making event.🧭🗺️🥾💎

If you’ve not read the book, I highly recommend. It’s a Rockhound nerd’s delight. The book is filled with enjoyable stories rich with history and zest for adventure. Within the stories and history, there are hidden clues and puzzles to find the treasure. JCB has included world class, one-of-kind specimens in the all 5 boxes.
