Music transcends all barriers. It's a powerful means of expression and I am proud to have the privilege of working with children on the Autism spectrum.

Victoria Laing is an accomplished singer-songwriter who is also on the autism spectrum. She wrote an original song about her loneliness in an effort to inspire people to treat everyone as equals.

Continuing my series on adaptive musicianship. Musicians with disabilities come in all shapes.

Brilliant solutions include egg shakers with Velcro finger straps and brass instrument stands for extra support while playing.

I remember having an 88 year old principal trumpet player who rigged a microphone stand to hold his trumpet up. All he had to do was pull it to him and play!

Resources and materials for music educators who have students with disabilities in the music classrooms and ensembles.

Working to create a sense of forward motion. Music is always coming away from and going toward something.

Before the pre-frontal cortex has fully fused in your twenties all forms of interpretation are vastly imitation based and much more difficult to access orgabically. Learning to do so takes significant sensitivity and thoughtfulness.
