Continuing my series on adaptive musicianship. Musicians with disabilities come in all shapes.

Brilliant solutions include egg shakers with Velcro finger straps and brass instrument stands for extra support while playing.

I remember having an 88 year old principal trumpet player who rigged a microphone stand to hold his trumpet up. All he had to do was pull it to him and play!

Working to create a sense of forward motion. Music is always coming away from and going toward something.

Before the pre-frontal cortex has fully fused in your twenties all forms of interpretation are vastly imitation based and much more difficult to access orgabically. Learning to do so takes significant sensitivity and thoughtfulness.
