It is with great sadness that we share the passing of PMSA alum, Malik Thurman (PMSA ‘11). Thurman’s classmates described his as a “kind soul, deep thinker, passionate, and patient leader both in and outside of the classroom.”
Hailing from Bellwood, Ill. Thurman was the star Quarterback of the Proviso West High School Panthers Football program in 2009 and 2010 leading the program to the IHSA playoffs for the first two times in school history. A dynamic student-athlete, he was also a standout leader on Proviso West’s Wrestling program receiving all-state recognition.
We’ll miss Malik and are keeping the Thurman family, who are true pioneers of giving back and helping develop leaders in the Proviso community, in our prayers. 💜🙏🏽

⭐ PMSA Student Spotlight: Joshua F.
Joshua is a junior at PMSA who balances academics and athletics with excellence. He is a member of the Proviso West baseball team and also plays travel baseball, all while maintaining an impressive 4.4 GPA.
Joshua says his most memorable part of PMSA has been meeting new students and making friends, and he appreciates how helpful and understanding his teachers are.
After high school, Joshua plans to attend college, continue playing baseball, and study marketing or sports management. His top college choice is Northern Illinois University, though he wouldn’t mind attending somewhere warm.
Fun fact: Joshua enjoys bowling in his free time. 🎳⚾

Volunteers Needed — PMSA Alumni & Community
When I Glow Up, a community-based nonprofit founded by PMSA alum Jazmond Miller is working to support PMSA seniors in need by providing a fully sponsored prom experience on April 24, 2026.
The organization is currently seeking volunteers and service support to help make this experience possible. If you are interested or know someone who may be able to assist, please reach out to Clarinda Avila or Jazmond Miller directly.
Current needs include:
• Barbers
• Hair stylists
• Nail artists
• Event volunteers (day-of support)
• DJ
• Balloon décor support
This is an opportunity for alumni and community members to reconnect, give back, and support students who may not otherwise be able to participate in prom due to financial barriers. Many of us are thriving — this is a chance to reach back and uplift the next generation of PMSA Pythons.
Thank you in advance for any leads, support, or connections.
