It turned out to be a great day for the Lions to serve food at the St. Paul Powerboat races on Forest Lake Saturday! Lakeside Memorial Park was enjoyed by many, including Grady, who visited our food truck and thanked us for our donations to Camp True Friends. The day was capped off by the Chamber of Commerce sponsored street dance, with great music and many enthusiastic participants!

We were glad to meet with local law enforcement and school officials this week as we aim to help youth and families in our community when they’re in need.
Our Lions Club members Jenny Lorge, Deb Gatzow and Gary Lee met with Forest Lake Police Chief Luke Hanegraaf to present clothing for all seasons (T-shirts and shorts, sweatshirts and pants, sandals and socks) that officers will distribute to area youth in need as they may encounter them. We also supplied emergency gas cards to the FLPD for distribution to area parents and other drivers when in need.
We thank our local Walmart management for a gift card contribution toward these clothing purchases made at their store.
Our other visit this week was with Principal Jason Miller at Forest Lake Area Middle School.
The Lions are offering financial support toward the school’s new Lions Angel Fund, which has been established to allow students from households in need to join in athletics and other extracurricular activities with their classroom peers.

Spring is here!…and today we’re continuing a yearly tradition of encouraging area youth to foster new life and growth from the earth we all share.
Tomorrow, 05/15, we have club volunteers who will distribute Black Hills spruce plugs to fifth-grade students at Columbus, Wyoming and Lino Lakes elementary schools as well as North Lakes Academy in Forest Lake.
For the second consecutive year, we also gave school officials the option or alternative to accept two Red maple trees for planting on their school grounds. Principals or administrators from Forest View, Linwood and Scandia elementaries and also Lakes International Language Academy requested the maple trees this spring in place of a spruce plug for each fifth-grader.
Some of our Lions school visitors for tomorrow joined a few others who could only volunteer today to pack the individual spruce plugs in the home garage of one of our club members. Lined up on opposite sides of a table, we had two Lions placing a plug in each bag, two Lions adding soil to each bag, and two more that stapled identifying tags to each bag.

At tonight’s monthly club dinner meeting, we welcomed a guest presentation from Gretchen Mattson, principal at Linwood Elementary School in our local School District 831.
Among other school features, Principal Mattson spoke of the Linwood School Forest which is known to be among the five largest school forests out of 160 that are maintained by local schools across Minnesota.
