Trauma and relational rupture impacts how we act in our relationships.

Sometimes it creates protective parts that give us the illusion of connection but keep others at a safe distance away. The vulnerability is too risky.

Other times our overactive hypervigilance misses the danger right of us and we get taken advantage of … again.

And still for some the effort to please others and m keep them close causes us to determine who we are based off of their perceived opinion or love of us.

In all of these examples we are never truly known.

Our systems can heal and integrate. It is possible to do relationships differently. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Most therapy sessions last 45-50 minutes. I offer longer sessions for 90 or 120 minutes. Here’s why:

✨ Less time is spent catching up at the beginning
✨ More time is spent working through your trauma and grief.
✨ It can be hard to enter this space, so it’s nice to use the momentum to get further along.
✨ There is more time to process your experience in therapy to make sure you are getting what you need.
✨ Less time is spent wrapping up as we are able to regulate your nervous system with more time available to us.

💡 Bottom line: You will get further faster with longer sessions. This means less time ⏳ and money 💰 spent on therapy.

Your protective system is there for a reason. It is working really hard to help you not feel difficult or scary emotions, vulnerability or a sense of not being safe. Most therapists come up against client’s protective systems and try to make those parts go away. I look at your protective system, and I’m grateful for it. It got you really far and has been working really hard. We don’t need it to go away. We need it to do its job in a more healthy manner.

For example, panic is really effective at getting you out of a present moment and away from a situation your system doesn’t like. However, it is debilitating and can cause a lot of problems. I work with your panic so that it has a healthy place to come out, like a truly life-threatening situation, rather than when it senses danger or discomfort.

Your protective system is so important. It needs to be seen and valued. I can help you with that and get it operating in a healthier way.

I saw this from the other day and immediately thought, “what a perfect example of parts!”

IFS, or parts work, starts with simply recognizing that there are parts of us that come up at different times, often are at odds with one another (because their each on their own mission), and sometimes take over our system.

Working with parts is so amazing because it gives you SPACE and FREEDOM to find your self energy ✨ instead of your parts leading the way. It is so healing!

Grief doesn't come with a handbook. You don't get to choose when it comes and goes. It hits you when you expect it and when you don't. It's with you like a companion you never asked for, and with time, it slowly fades further into the background.

It's okay not to know how to walk this road.

I can help. Unknown roads need a guide. I can be your guide on the grief journey. You don't have to wander it alone.
