Anyone need a 275 gallon IBC tank, some throw pillows, a roll of barb wire, a different front bumper for your car, or a ceiling fan? You can get one for free in the rock along 270 between Florissant and Hanley Roads. Just sayin'. Come on its time to pay attention to Florissant and your rock garden.

Look at this significant project! Thank you MODOT for removing overgrowth that had accumulated plastic bags and debris. Thank you Florissant Street and Health Department for your contributions! This improvement will greatly enhance the appearance of this area! MoDOT - St. Louis

MODOT, thank you for cleaning the underpass at 270 and Hanley Road. Now let’s see if you can get the plastic bags out of all the trees along Dunn Road in that same area. Keep the momentum going!

Big problem for MODOT today. I wonder if they will get all this garbage up?????

The St. Louis region likely accounts for a substantial share of Missouri’s $17.8 BILLION vulnerable road user (VRU) crash cost from 2015–2023 — plausibly several billion dollars — but MoDOT has not released the data needed to calculate an exact regional amount.

What this statistic does show is the real pain and suffering behind the numbers — lives lost, families changed forever — and the financial reality that about 9% of these crash costs are shouldered directly by local taxpayers.

That means every resident pays, whether you drive, walk, bike, ride transit, or not.

This is not someone else’s problem.
This is a local safety, fiscal, and accountability issue — and it’s why proven safety countermeasures and Safe System design cannot be optional or delayed.

MODOT is in Florissant tonight. Share your ideas regarding the reconstruction of Hallsferry Road between 270 and Lindbergh at the James Eagan Center before 7:00. Pictured are Tom Blair and Tabitha Locke both from MODOT with Gina Siebe from Historic Florissant, discussing the rock along 270, weeds in fenced areas, and debris issues. We may have some solutions to the rock issue in the future.

This is a photo taken today at Dunn & S. Waterford which shows an example of the broken curbs and the fence line with tall weeds in the background. One could find this up and down Dunn and Pershall roads It has been brought to the attention of MODOT with little to no response. The curb and blocks cause additional safety concerns. You can do better MoDOT - St. Louis

The City of Florissant and Unincorporated North St. Louis County have absorbed over $100 million in crash costs on Route AC (New Halls Ferry Rd.) between 2019 and 2023.

Local taxpayers carry about 9% of that burden — more than $18 million every year in police, fire, EMS, hospital, court, and long-term recovery costs.

And even with MoDOT’s proposed upgrades, the crash-reduction savings are still substantially below the actual crash costs happening on this corridor today. The question is, how much is MoDOT forecasting crash reductions on this corridor with their plans?

Without stronger, FHWA-proven safety measures, the community will continue losing more money — and more people will continue getting hurt — year after year.

Why your voice matters:

• MoDOT does not pay these crash costs — local residents do.

• FHWA research is clear: roadway design determines safety. If a corridor keeps harming people, it’s because the design allows it.

• Only MoDOT can change the underlying safety design of this road.

Florissant and North County deserve safer streets, safer crossings, and a roadway designed to prevent crashes — not continue them.

Showing up is how we make that happen!

Thomas Woytus was crossing Dunn Road on October 29 on one of his walks when a car hit him. The driver stayed at the scene. Woytus was hospitalized and underwent multiple surgeries before his death.

His daughters said he was wearing a caution vest and a headlamp when he was struck.

According to Florissant police, there have been 12 crashes at the intersection of Dunn Road and Washington Street in the last year.

Look who’s in Florissant today! Thank you!MoDOT - St. Louis The guys were manually picking up big debris before the street cleaner came through. One guy reached over the guardrail in an attempt to grab a red gas can from the rock, only to have it roll down the hill into an unreachable spot. Another reason rock is a problem. Now this gas can will remain forever as the rock does not allow for workers to walk over it.

Today Florissant is out doing MODOT’s job. Thank you, Florissant, for ensuring our front door is nice and clean!
PS. Notice they pick up the debri before mowing opposed to mowing over it and spewing it everywhere. MoDOT - St. Louis
