The goal is to provide a space where Flint, Mi Natives and current residents can go to to find other creatives, business owners, policy workers and literally anyone else in between to work with. We want to support each other and the business we do, why not work with one another?

One of the end-goals for The Flint Collective is for it to become a Non-Profit Organization that puts back into the city that put into us. This includes community service, mentoring, scholarship funds, pre-college/pre-business classes taught by members for high school students and much more. I know we need to start somewhere, so I am looking to get us started on community outreach activities that will begin during or after the summer. Know of any established programs that need volunteers, schools looking for mentors or things we could get involved in? Let us know!

Flint is large but still small in the way that, I’m sure you know someone who knows someone. With Phase 1 of The Flint Collective, we aim to bridge that gap just a bit. We want to build a directory of sorts that includes people of Flint (either Born and Raised and/or Currently residing in) to connect them to work on their future endeavors/business ventures/personal projects and everything in between. There are so many talented people in/from Flint, creatives, business owners and the likes, that it would be amazing if we all worked with each other on these projects. In 2015 I had an idea. It started out small and then started to grow faster than I could put it into action. The idea was simple: Create a way to connect with people in and from Flint, especially for those of us that may be far from home so we could 1.Finally meet all those mutual friends that you hear about and 2. Put those mutual friendships to action. Then I realized that these connections could go farther than just helping each other, we could give back to the community that helped make us who we are today. I saw mentorship, fundraisers for scholarships, job help, business resources and more. The only problem was, I had a very hard time conveying this idea, this vision to others. I tried to do email blasts, we even met up once or twice, but I dropped the ball because I didn’t see things going as fast or as smooth as I thought they would in my head. Fast forward to 3 failed launch attempts and 5 years later, I almost thought there was nothing to show for it. At the start of 2020, I knew that was wrong. This idea has become bigger than me. In those failed attempts, I finally see that. I also now know how to explain clearly what I know The Flint Collective will become because I understand that it will take time to grow. In the next few days, I will clearly explain and I hope you can get behind it as well.
