Established in 1989 to provide cost-effective tutor training, the Genesee County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization of groups and individuals dedicated to improving literacy levels in Flint and Genesee County. Today we celebrate an incredible milestone of a very special member of the FGLN family ๐Ÿ’š Please join us in congratulating Ladelvin Walker. From learner to leader, her journey reflects the power of perseverance and the impact of education, and we have had the privilege of witnessing every step of it. LaDelvin, we are so proud of you and all that you have accomplished!!

LaDelvinโ€™s journey began as a participant in family literacy programming and grew into four years of service as FGLNโ€™s first AmeriCorps member and Family Advocate. Along the way, she earned her GED, received the ProLiteracy Colvin & Laubach Award for Adult Learner Excellence in 2019, and served as a Workforce Literacy Coach at the Talent Development Center for GST Michigan Works! throughout her post-secondary education. She graduated from MCC in 2023 and now celebrates earning her Bachelor of Social Work from UM-Flint. She is continuing directly into her Master of Social Work program, carrying forward her commitment to uplifting others.

This $1,000 scholarship supports students (17+) completing their high school diploma or GED in the 2025โ€“2026 school year and continuing to college or a certificate program.
