Another New Jersey community is mourning the tragic loss of 2 people who died in a Trenton shooting this past weekend that also injured 8 others. A neighborhood is shaken by tragedy. The Trenton Community Street Team has been there responding trauma calls and working to help residents through the emotional toll that gun violence like this leaves behind.

We hold the victims and their families in our hearts and remain committed to fighting for lasting change and to support survivors of gun violence.

Two people were killed and eight others were injured after multiple gunmen opened fire into a crowd at a block party in Trenton early Sunday, authorities said.

Last week National Night Out held incredible community building events all across the country.
Throughout New Jersey our Moms Demand Action-NJ volunteers were busy at family-centered activities giving out information about the Be SMART program, spreading education about the prevention of child fi***rm tragedies and awareness about secure fi***rm storage.

Community Violence Intervention groups are evidence-based, community-led strategies with programs focused on preventing and interrupting cycles of violence in communities. These critical programs have demonstrated measurable change all over New Jersey.

Recently Mercer County recently awarded the Trenton-based organization, Salvation and Social Justice, $500,000 for a 2-year Restorative Justice Hub pilot. They will work hand-in-hand with other well-established community organizations and coordinate with schools, families, and groups in their commitment to provide immediate restorative and wellness services to adults and youth in the Trenton area.

At a time when the sustainability of so many important CVI programs is at risk, it is great to see infusion of resources that will yield positive effects on public safety and community well-being through connection, compassion, and an additional layer of community-based safety.

Earlier this week over 1000 survivors, community partners and volunteers from Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action gathered in Washington D.C. to urge lawmakers to pass common-sense gun laws. Over 3 days of events and training, everyone including some of our amazing New Jersey advocates worked together to build relationships, learn from each others’ successes and challenges, and remind ourselves why we work to prevent gun violence in our communities. We are ALL IN for gun safety and we won’t back down until we get it.

Today, the first Friday of June is observed as National Gun Violence Awareness Day or simply Wear Orange, and there is so much to do this weekend!!! In the weeks leading up to Wear Orange our volunteers are busy with local proclamations, event tabling, community activities, and educational opportunities all over New Jersey. Check out the Demand App, click the link in our bio or text ORANGE to 644-33 for a full list of any and everything Wear Orange. There will be guest speakers, community resources, live music, giveaways and more. Come out, wear orange and gather together for healing, support, and hope.

We invite you to join NJ Moms Demand Action as we proudly march in Asbury Park for the annual New Jersey Pride parade! Together, we will stand with the LGBTQ+ community in our shared commitment to disarm hate -- building a future where everyone can live with dignity and without fear. The parade kicks off at noon the Asbury Park Municipal Center, and winds its way through town before ending in a celebration at Bradley Park. We’ll send a confirmation email with information about transportation, the Pride festival, and more. Join us as we raise our voices for unity and a world free from gun violence!
