Babies Can Swim of Volusia / Flagler

Babies Can Swim of Volusia / Flagler Aquatic survival skills for children as young as 6 months We’d like to provide you with a brief overview of our comprehensive aquatic skills program.

First, we offer private beginning swim lessons for children of all ages, starting at 6 months of age. Beginning swim lessons focus on independent swimming and floating (also known as "swim-float-swim," "self-rescue" or "survival swimming"). They are approximately 10 minutes in length and scheduled 4 days per week (M-Th). Once children are skilled with independent swimming and floating, we offer opportunities for ongoing practice through our fun days and parent days, which are lessons scheduled once a week or once every other week for maintenance/refinement of skills. We focus on showing parents and their children how to have FUN with their newly acquired skills. We also offer private "refresher" lessons for children of any age who have previously learned the swim-float-swim, from My Swim Life or another program, and just need some additional lessons to brush up on their basic skills. My Swim Life instructors can take a child from being completely inexperienced and unskilled through independent survival skills, swimming for fun and fitness, snorkeling, transition to stroke and stroke FUNdamentals We are your one-stop-shop for aquatic skills! Our lessons are some of the most affordable around, especially when you consider the skill progressions taught and the number of lessons to accomplish skills. There is a yearly $50.00 registration fee per child and beginning lesson tuition is $80.00 per week, per child and $100.00 per week, per child for Fitness One. Lessons are one on one, instructor & 1 student at 10 minute intervals. Please be on time. Your child must be ready to get in the pool at the time slot given to you. Because our beginning lessons are private, availability of open lesson times can vary depending on the week you want to begin. For planning purposes, although every child is different and learns at a different rate, typically children are skilled in basic survival in about 20-24 lessons and older children learn more quickly than younger ones. Morning lessons will begin in Flagler Beach on Monday, April 19 starting at 9:00 AM (pool temp permitting.) Please print the attached form & mail to Sue Goldberg, 14 Audubon Lane, Flagler Beach, FL, 32136 along with your check for your child’s 1st week of lessons made payable to Sue Goldberg. Receiving your 1st week will guarantee a time slot to start on Monday. Payments in CASH for all other weeks are DUE each Thursday. Also, paying for lessons is like paying for gymnastics or preschool, etc. Any missed classes unfortunately are at your expense, whether vacation or sick. Try to schedule the lessons to give your child at least 3 weeks in a row to begin. Any lessons I cancel due to weather or personal reasons you will receive credit towards the following week. Courtesy of Becky Puhl:

As of 1 pm today, we have had 73 DCF reported drowning deaths in Florida. We saw record numbers in 2025 recording 120 children lost their lives due to fatal drownings. We have surpassed last year’s numbers to date.

50 of the 73 occurred in swimming pools.

11 were children with ASD

54 were age 4 and under

5 were bath tub drownings!

Use of door, window & pool alarms, barriers to any water, supervise your children while in the bath tub!

We now have 52 reported child drownings in Florida involving children under the age of 18.
• 38 occurred in swimming pools
• 8 at vacation or rental properties
• 10 involved children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• 9 took place in open water
• At least 30 were children under the age of 3 (as of Friday’s data)
These numbers are devastating — and every one was preventable.
Please assign a dedicated adult to actively watch the children anytime they are near water. No phones. No distractions. No multitasking.
It only takes seconds for a drowning to occur — often silently.
Every child deserves our full attention around water.

🚩 What do beach flags really mean? They could save your life.
Before you step into the ocean, look up. Beach flags are there to warn you about current water conditions—like strong currents, dangerous waves, or even when the water is closed.

Too often, swimmers ignore these flags or don’t understand them—and that’s when preventable tragedies happen.
These aren’t suggestions—they’re safety signals.
A quick check of the flag can help you avoid rip currents, hazardous surf, and other hidden dangers. It’s one of the simplest ways to prevent drowning before it even becomes a risk.

👉 Take a second. Check the flag. Make the safe choice.
