I am deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by men and women who joined the military to protect the freedoms we enjoy as a nation and then lost their lives. My heart also goes out to the families who lost those dear ones and remember them today. ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸 Photo from my Assembled Stories collection. See the full size at roseandbird.com/assembled/

Happy birthday Dolly Parton! 🦋 I remember seeing Dolly on Porter Wagoner’s TV show on Saturday afternoons as a young teen when I clearly was not a country music fan. But then I grew up and lived in beautiful Knoxville, TN for 20 years. Being that close to Dolly’s beloved home town in the Smokies helped me to see her for more than the country music superstar she had become. She is also a savvy businesswoman, philanthropist and, of course, one of the greatest singer songwriters in history. And now I also love her music.

Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today by demonstrating love more courageously and rejecting the hate that is filling our nation.

“I have decided to stick to love... Hate is too great a burden to bear.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is a tough day for those who remember all too well what unfolded in our nation’s capital 5 years ago today. For that reason, please enjoy this sweet photo of my new rescue pup Bobby. May he remind you all that even on tough days of remembering there is sweetness and light. Photo credit: my daughter who is a much better photographer than me ❤️
