Know Before You Go: We May Not Always Have the Answers, But Together We Can Help Each Other Ask the Right Questions
One of the things I have learned through life, leadership, and now navigating the responsibilities that come with caring for aging parents is this:
We may not always have the answers, but together we can help each other ask the right questions.
There are seasons in life when we find ourselves stepping into unfamiliar territory.
Managing a parent’s finances.
Navigating healthcare decisions.
Understanding legal documents.
Working through estate responsibilities.
Advocating for someone who needs us to help carry their voice.
These moments rarely come with a roadmap.
And often, the hardest part isn’t finding the answer.
It’s knowing what questions to ask before you begin.
That is the heart behind Know Before You Go.
This isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about sharing experiences, lessons learned, and resources that may help someone else feel a little more prepared when they face a challenging chapter.
Recently, while helping my mom manage her banking needs, I was reminded of how important preparation and communication are. Even with planning, documentation, and the best intentions, there are often additional questions we don’t know to ask until we are already in the process.
That experience reinforced something I believe deeply:
The more we share what we learn, the more we help each other navigate the unexpected.
And this isn’t limited to caregiving.
Many of us are at a stage in life where we are balancing leadership roles, careers, businesses, family responsibilities, and aging parents. We are experienced professionals who know how to solve problems at work, yet we often find ourselves learning a completely new set of skills when life requires us to advocate for the people we love.
So I want to invite the conversation.
What are the questions you wish you had known to ask sooner?
What experiences have you had that might help someone else?
What resources, lessons, or insights have made a difficult situation a little easier?
Because the goal isn’t for any one of us to have all the answers.
The goal is to create a community where we share what we know, learn from one another, and help each other move forward with greater confidence.
That’s how we make complicated chapters a little less complicated.
Know Before You Go.
Because sometimes the most valuable thing we can offer is not the answer. It’s helping someone ask the right question.
