Burnout Isn't Commitment—It's Poor Leadership

I used to wear burnout like a badge.

"I'm grinding." "I'm hustling." "I'm sacrificing."

What I was actually doing? Modeling poor leadership for my team.

Here's what I've learned: burnout isn't a sign of commitment. It's a sign that your systems are broken, your boundaries are weak, or you're trying to do too much.

The ops leaders I respect most? They work hard AND protect their energy. They're ambitious AND realistic. They push their teams AND give them space to breathe.

Burnout is contagious. If you're burned out, your team is burned out. If you're scattered, they're scattered. If you're panicking, they're panicking.

The best thing you can do for your team isn't to work harder. It's to get healthy.

Take the day off. Go for a walk. Call someone you trust. Sleep.

Your business will still be there. And you'll be better for it.

What's one thing you need to stop doing to protect your energy? Comment below.

People Don't Leave Bad Managers—They Leave Bad Leadership

I managed a training team at a building supply manufacturer. My team liked working for me. We had trust. We had clarity. We communicated.

But they still left.

Not because of me. Because they couldn't trust the executive leadership anymore.

Here's what I learned: people will tolerate a tough manager if they trust the direction. But they won't stay for a good manager under bad leadership.

The ops leaders keeping their best talent aren't just managing well. They're:

1️⃣ Transparent about decisions (even the hard ones)

2️⃣ Consistent in their values (no mixed messages from the top)

3️⃣ Accountable for their mistakes (they own it)

4️⃣ Clear about where the company is headed (people need to believe in the mission)

Trust is the currency of retention. And trust breaks fast when leadership doesn't walk the talk.

Your best people aren't leaving because the job is hard. They're leaving because they don't trust where you're taking them.

What's eroding trust on your team right now? Comment below.

I had a plan. A really solid plan.

Then last week happened. Insurance company denies a claim. Margin on a job comes in lower. A training opportunity goes to someone else.

And suddenly, the plan that felt so solid starts to crack.

I won't lie—I felt it. Frustration. Disappointment. That feeling where you're working your ass off and life just says "Not today."

Here's What I Know

Life is going to have trials and tribulations. You can have the best laid plans, and s**t will happen that's completely out of your control.

The question isn't "Will things go wrong?" They will. The question is: How will you respond?

The Framework

1. Feel it first. You're disappointed. You're frustrated. That's real. Acknowledge it.

2. Talk to someone. Whether it's a friend, a mentor, your spouse, or God—don't carry it alone. The burden gets lighter when you share it.

3. Separate the facts from the feelings. Yes, I lost money. Yes, I didn't get the gig. But the story I'm telling myself about what those facts mean? That's separate. I'm not a failure. I'm a leader navigating real business challenges.

4. Look for the lesson, not the blame. Blame is a dead end. Learning is a path forward.

5. Adjust and move forward. My plan changed. But I'm not stopped. I'm not broken. I'm not giving up.

Why This Matters for Your Team

Your team is watching how you handle pressure. Your family is watching. The way you respond to setbacks sets the tone for everything. If you panic, they panic. If you blame, they blame. If you get curious and adjust, they get curious and adjust.

I don't know yet if I'm going to Thailand. I don't know if the insurance company is going to come through.

But I know this: I'm not stopped. I'm not broken. I'm not giving up.

I'm a leader navigating real life challenges. And that's exactly what my team needs to see.

AI Won't Fix Your Leadership Problem

I use AI every day. For planning, for content, for analyzing data. It's saved me hundreds of hours.

But here's what I've learned: AI is a force multiplier, not a replacement.

If your leadership is reactive, AI will help you react faster. If it's strategic, AI will help you strategize better. But if you're broken, AI just makes you a faster broken leader.

The real power of AI isn't in the tool—it's in what you do with the output.

I've seen ops leaders use AI to:
- Identify bottlenecks they've been ignoring for years
- Spot patterns in turnover and fix them before they spiral
- Forecast demand with 30% more accuracy

But they had to know what questions to ask first.

What problem are you trying to solve? That's where AI starts.

This week tested my faith in my plan. Then AI helped me see what I was missing.

I had everything mapped out. Financial targets. Timeline. Opportunities lined up.

Then life happened. Insurance denials. Margin misses. An opportunity that didn't pan out.

And suddenly, I'm questioning everything.

That's when I turned to AI. Not because it would fix everything. But because I needed clarity on what was actually happening.

I used it to model different scenarios. To see where my money really needed to come from. To navigate the losses and reforecast quickly. To see the holes in my own thinking that I couldn't see alone.

And here's what surprised me: AI didn't solve the problem. But it helped me think more clearly about the problem.

Most people think AI is magic. It's not. It's a tool. And like any tool, it only works if you know how to use it with intention.

The ops leaders winning right now have standardized how they use AI. They've built processes around it. They don't throw it at problems and hope. They use it strategically.

Here's the framework I use:

1. Define the process first—What decision are you making too slowly?
2. Standardize the input—Clean data, clear prompts, consistent approach
3. Build the feedback loop—Did it help? How do you refine it?
4. Measure the impact—Track faster decisions, cost savings, time savings

AI won't save your operation. But if you have discipline to use it strategically, it will make you faster, smarter, and more resilient.

The question isn't "Should we use AI?" It's "How do we use AI with intention?"

That's where the competitive advantage lives.

What's one decision in your ops you're making too slowly? DM me—let's talk about how AI could accelerate it.

Your Supply Chain Isn't Broken—It's Just Exposed

New tariffs are landing. 10-12.5% on forced labor compliance. Additional hits on Canadian goods.

Here's what I'm hearing from ops leaders: "We didn't see this coming."

But that's not entirely true. You saw it coming. You just didn't plan for it.

The difference between leaders who weather tariff volatility and those who panic? Scenario planning.

Right now, you need three things:

1️⃣ Granular data on your supply chain (which suppliers, which products, which margins are at risk)

2️⃣ Flexibility in sourcing (don't put all your eggs in one tariff basket)

3️⃣ Speed in decision-making (by the time you're comfortable with the decision, the market's moved)

The ops leaders I'm coaching aren't waiting for clarity. They're building it.

What's your biggest supply chain vulnerability right now? Drop it in the comments.

Drone inspection = trust.

Trust = repeat business.

Here's what happened:

I did a drone inspection for a homeowner. Gave them honest feedback. No pressure. Just clarity.

Months later, a tree fell on their roof.

Guess who they called?

Me.

Not because I was the cheapest. Not because I was pushy. Because they trusted me.

That one inspection led to repair work plus replacing their gutters.

One act of service turned into a customer for life.

In roofing, in coaching, in any business: build trust first. The money follows.

Faith is not separate from leadership.

It shapes how you decide, how you serve, and how you stay steady when the floor gets noisy. 🧭

The leaders who win long-term are not the loudest. They are the ones anchored in purpose, disciplined in ex*****on, and clear on legacy.

Thailand in August. Ticket not booked yet.

Here's why.

My wife's dealing with medical stuff for her parents. I'm working my trip around that because family comes first.

Second, I've got an offer on the table to do a training event during my trip. I'm negotiating with them to either move the date up, pay my premium rate and cover my travel costs to come back from Thailand, or move it to September.

Why the flexibility? Because this training will put me in contact with leaders who work with the state of Georgia—people with influence on businesses that could use my coaching and consulting.

So I'm waiting to see what they decide before I book.

That's the real game right now. It's not just about the trip. It's about protecting what matters (my wife, her family) while positioning for what's next (the right opportunities at the right price).

The money will follow if you get the priorities right.
