Joe from the Center for Arkansas Farms and Food kicks off a miniseries on organic fertility management by explaining that the first step in a farm nutrition or fertilizer program is soil sampling to measure nutrients available in the soil. He demonstrates collecting multiple 6-inch-deep samples with a soil probe and bucket for a uniform sample, and emphasizes sampling when soil has moderate moisture and consistent conditions—often in the fall—to better represent summer growing conditions.
