Thank you to Farmville Central FFA Chapter's Sentinel, Michael, for coming to teach FMS Agriculture students about soil texture. Michael is completing his supervised agricultural experience (SAE) on Agriculture Education since he believes he may want to persue a career in teaching. SAE projects are just one of the ways that Agriculture Education allows students to explore career options and gain real world experience in a wide variety of areas.

This afternoon we held the official chartering ceremony for the Farmville Middle FFA Chapter. We'd like to thank the Pitt County FFA Alumni Association, NC FFA State Officers and Staff, North East Regional FFA Officers, as well advisors and members from other Pitt County FFA Chapters for attending and showing their support of our young chapter. As the advisor and teacher for these young people, I'd like to thank our FMS FFA members for joining us and for their commitment to FFA already. We're looking forward to many great opportunities still to come!

Big thank you to Jackson for not only driving a tractor to school today but also for helping teach all of his agriscience peers about tractors! Students were able to see and experience a tractor and also learn about the importance of safety when sharing the road with farm equipment.

It's officially the beginning of strawberry season!

🍓Nothing beats taking a break on a hot summer day and munching on some fresh and local strawberries! Did you know that NC ranks 4th nationally in strawberry production. Roughly 1,100 acres of NC are for strawberry production. How sweet!

🍓Three of the most common strawberries are Sweet Charlie, Camarosa, and Chandler, however there are around 103 species and subspecies of strawberries. Did you know that the rarest strawberry is located in Japan, the White Jewel, and it’s also the most expensive?

🍓You can find strawberries at just about any grocery store or farmers market, but nothing beats a locally grown strawberry that you can pick yourself! You can find tons of strawberry farms in NC, including but not limited to Odom Farms, CM Family Farm, Cottle Farm, and lots more!

Yesterday students had the opportunity to get out of the classroom and learn about goats from several Farmville Central FFA Chapter officers. Topics included safety, handling, and health checks.

Congratulations to our first ever CDE (career development event) participant this week! Tanner Winslow competed at the federation level events in Creed Speaking! Tanner will be advancing to the regional level to compete next month!

Farmville Middle Agriculture students had the opportunity to meet some of Mrs. Riggs chickens and expand on their poultry knowledge with a hands on lab today. On a scale of 1 to 10, students ruled that today's lab was an "infinity times a million".
