RIP Canyon! You will be missed! We had the vet come out, since he still hasn’t gotten up. The vet recommended euthanasia to be humane to him. He had no want to get up, no matter what we did. We didn’t want him to suffer anymore. Grandpa wanted you so bad, at least you’ll be up in heaven with him now. Last picture I got of him before putting him down. We did everything we could, but it just wasn’t enough. 😞

How you administer medicine to a donkey? Applesauce, they LOVE applesauce! We mix his powdered medicine in to get him to take it or else they are a little stubborn 😂

When your donkey hurts his foot, you bring him water and take care of him! We got him in the shed so he’s in shade, treated his wound and gave him some medicine, now time to just heal!

The part of bee keeping that takes the most work… putting the hive supplies together. 40 nails per hive box, 12 nails per base, besides the glueing and clamping. Then once all put together, painting everything. All these boxes will be used for our existing hives. 2 boxes per hive, the base, the stand, the inner and outer frames for the basic stands. For any that are going to produce honey, it’s an additional queen excluder and super boxes for them on top of everything else. Some of these materials are preparation for swarm season next year.

Bees find unique places to settle into. Two night adventure to get these guys out. About 15’ in the air, in insulation under rafters. It was quite the job, then we covered up the opening so they couldn’t go back in until the owners of the cabin can permanently seal it off. That hole in the third picture with the insulation sticking out is where they were. We used our bee Vac to help suck the bees out after we got all the comb out and into frames.

Before pictures of the hole bees were in, then during after we cut open the tree. Then the empty tree trunk, after we got all the bees out. 5 frames full of brood and honey, with at least 2 queens in it. First time cutting open a tree to do this, but went smoothly! The tree had fallen down from one of the storms this week, so we were able to just cut open as we needed to rescue the bees.

Last evening this was the sight on one of the farms. Mother Nature can be truly beautiful.

Thank you to Kelly Threw for picking up our 4 Nucs for us, then for helping us transfer them to their new homes at Liberty Acres Farm! Nucs are mini hives, with 5 frames, a queen, brood already going (babies), some nector for food and new worker bees, established on regular frames.

Fun fact: Nucs are different than packaged bees, that are just so many pounds of worker bees with a queen that’s in a special container. They eat towards each other through some food and by the time they do, then they will follow the queen, but they have no food, no brood, no comb or anything started. Nucs are the safer route to go compared to a package bees.
