The District operates in three comprehensive high schools, three middle schools, sixteen elementary schools, a setting D day program, and a self-directed academy. FPS also operates an alternative high school and an early childhood education center for children with special needs. Student enrollment in FPS for the 2024-25 school year is approximately 11,200. Schools is governed by a nine-member Board of Education, whose members may serve an unlimited number of four-year terms. Board members oversee the District’s annual budget of nearly $216 million during the 2023-24 fiscal year. Staff
The school system employs more than 2,000 permanent employees. Included in that number are approximately 1005 teachers of which 67% hold a master’s degree or higher. Specialists are placed in all District elementary buildings, to deliver instruction in visual arts, library/media services, music, and physical education. Curriculum
Fargo Public Schools is accredited through Cognia, a world-wide, non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews by highly trained and experienced education professionals of Pre-K through grade 12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. The District offers high school students more than 220 courses within 28 curriculum areas. Advanced Placement (AP) courses include biology, calculus, chemistry, history, and physics, in addition to language and the arts. Career & Technical Education curriculum in the Fargo Public Schools includes automotive, business, construction, graphic arts, health, information technologies, industry, and manufacturing, with access to agriculture and aviation through the Cass County Career and Technical Education Consortium. Through its special education department, the District serves 18% of our student population with special needs, ages 3-21. Configuration
The District educates its students through a city-wide grade-level configuration of grade K-5 elementary schools, grade 6-8 middle schools, and grade 9-12 high schools. The District’s elementary and middle school buildings constructed and/or remodeled after 1994 utilize the shared “pod” or “team center” concept, which assigns groups of students and teachers together for interconnected teaching and learning using common resources. The District offers, on average, more than 55 co-curricular activities at each of the comprehensive high schools. This includes athletics, forensics, clubs, music, technology, community service, honor societies, and the performing arts. Many directly relate to or include academic coursework. Congratulations to Davies High School sophomore Ellery Ames and junior Rachel Choe on being named to the North Dakota State Superintendent's Student Cabinet! The Cabinet brings together 25 students from across the state of North Dakota to provide insight, feedback and perspective on key education issues directly to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Members of the Cabinet will serve a two‑school‑year term.

This year’s Cabinet will also serve as automatic delegates to the newly launched Student Summit, scheduled for November 16-17 in the North Dakota House of Representative Chambers. The Summit aims to bring together the brightest high school students from across the state for a focused, two-day legislative simulation.

Fargo Public Schools has 15 elementary schools, three comprehensive middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, a K-12 virtual academy, an alternative high school, a K-8 special education day school, and an early childhood special education program.

If voters approve an excess mill levy on November 3, FPS will continue to provide the same quality educational opportunities for all learners in each of these schools and programs. FPS desires to meet the community’s expectation of a high-quality education for its learners.

South High School’s Automotive Technology learners are putting their skills to work in a meaningful way through a partnership with Fix It Forward. Students will repair donated vehicles, gaining valuable hands-on experience and developing workplace and life skills. When the vehicles are ready, they will be given to families in need, giving students the opportunity to see how they can make a difference in the lives of others in the community.

Carl Ben Eielson seventh grade science students learned about the characteristics of living things, dormancy, and that living things need to be in the correct environment to thrive. The learners tested five unknown materials for life in three different liquid environments, plain water, sugar water, and salt water. They later found out the materials were sand, radish seeds, polyacrylate crystals, brine shrimp, and yeast.

On the November 3 general election, Fargo Public Schools will have a question on the ballot for approval of an excess mill levy. The approval would grant Fargo Public Schools the authority to maintain its current offerings in its schools. Providing this authority ensures that the District can continue to cover the costs of offering a comprehensive educational experience for all students.

Eagles Elementary School's pre-school year professional development had a theme based on Survivor. Teams worked together through a fire-building STEM challenge and a challenging 3D fire puzzle, putting their communication and collaboration skills to the test. They finished the day by creating a tribe buff. Staff thought about the people who lift them up and the qualities that make those people special and chose four words that best reflected the values they want to bring to their work and wrote them on their buff.

The retreat was designed to help students connect, build relationships, and feel at home in their new community. Seniors rooted on the freshman and taught them school cheers, Bruin ambassadors led community-building circles, and the freshmen participated in other activities to help them meet new people.
