Parents have more educational options today than ever before.

They can find wonderful enrichment programs. They can choose from incredible curriculum. They can join co-ops, microschools, clubs, tutors, and countless learning opportunities.

Those are all valuable.

But what is much harder to find is a place of true belonging - a community where learners and families are connected to something larger than themselves.

That's what first drew us to Acton.

When you become a member of Acton Studios of Rochester, you're not simply joining a local studio for two days each week. You're becoming part of a global movement that's courageously reimagining education.

Behind every Quest, every Challenge, every Socratic discussion, and every tool we use is the collective wisdom of hundreds of Acton communities around the world. Founders, guides, parents, and learners are continually sharing ideas, refining practices, solving challenges together, and inspiring one another.

For the 2026–27 studio year, our annual membership is $4,800.

Membership includes:
• 36 weeks together
• 72 full studio days
• Bi-weekly Adventure Days (approx 18 throughout the year)
• A learner's first laptop
• All studio materials and Quest supplies
• Journey Tracker and learning platforms
• Exhibitions, parent gatherings, community and [homeschool] support that extends well beyond studio days

Yet even those numbers don't tell the whole story.

Because membership isn't simply access to two days each week.

It's joining a community that inspires learners to discover who they are, equips them with tools to navigate an ever-changing world, and connects families to a network of people who believe childhood should be filled with purpose, responsibility, curiosity, and meaningful work.

As our community grows, so does our vision. Our long-term hope is to expand to three full studio days each week, alongside Adventure Days. We believe an additional collaborative day will create even more opportunities for deep work, meaningful relationships, and increasing independence - especially as our older learners prepare for the rhythms and responsibilities that await them beyond Acton.

We're building thoughtfully, one family and one learner at a time.

It's easy to calculate the cost of membership.

Hey everyone - We wanted to share a little heart behind some schedule changes we’ll be making next year.

As many of you know, building something meaningful and sustainable takes seasons of growth, reflection, and intentional focus. After a lot of thought, we’ve decided to slightly scale back our schedule for the upcoming year so we can really double down on strengthening and building the studio well.

Our goal isn’t to do less long term — it’s actually the opposite. We’re creating space to refine systems, deepen the culture, support families more intentionally, and lay the groundwork for a strong ramp back up to a full three-day program in 2027.

We care deeply about protecting what makes this community special, and we believe thoughtful growth is healthier than simply growing fast.

Thank you for continuing to believe in this vision, for walking alongside us in the seek-and-search process of education, and for helping build something different for young people here in Rochester. We’re genuinely excited for what’s ahead.

And oh, btw - if you haven't learned about Acton yet - it's worth digging into! We're turning education on its head....and IT'S WORKING!!!!

We understand that choosing an alternative path to education in New York can sometimes feel like stepping into a gray area.

Many homeschooling parents wrestle with questions like:
“What do we need to do for the state?”
“Am I doing enough?”
“How do I recreate school at home?”
“Should learning even look like school at all?”

But what if the better question is:
“What happens when we trust young people to take ownership of their learning?”

That question sits at the heart of the Acton model.
Acton is not traditional school at home.
It is not tutoring.
It is not teacher-led instruction packaged differently.
It is a learner-driven framework built on real responsibility, meaningful work, deep discussion, goal-setting, accountability, entrepreneurship, and the belief that every young person is capable of far more than we often imagine.

At Acton Studios of Rochester, our role is not to replace parents in the homeschool journey, but to inspire, equip, and connect families to the Acton model while creating a space where learners can gather in community, tackle deeper challenges, and walk through their own Hero’s Journey.

This path is not for everyone.

But for families willing to rethink education at its core, it can be transformational.

We believe young people are capable.
We believe learning should matter.

And we believe each learner carries a unique calling that can change the world.
