🫶🏼A big THANK YOU to our friends at the Greene County Public Library for surprising our BLS teachers with these adorable custom goodie bags! 🛍️

Each bag included information about the public library and some of the special resources available specifically for educators—and it was a great reminder of just how much our local library has to offer. From books and multimedia resources to educational programs, special events, research tools, and so much more, there are opportunities for learners of every age. And one of our favorite parts? The library is FREE! ✨

At Bethlehem, we know that building strong readers and lifelong learners takes a whole community, and we are so thankful to partner with organizations throughout Fairborn that share that goal. When schools, families, and community resources work together, our students have even more opportunities to explore their interests, discover new stories, and keep learning far beyond the classroom walls. ❤️🤍💙

Be sure to check out the Fairborn Library’s website to see what’s coming up! You might find the perfect opportunity to extend your child’s learning—or discover a book club, class, or adult program for yourself. 👀

Happy reading, BLS! 📚✨

📚💙 The tradition continues! For the third year in a row, our 8th grade students are teaming up with our 1st graders for one of our favorite Bethlehem traditions: Reading Buddies!

Today, we matched our newest group of “big kids” with their 1st grade buddies, and we can already tell some sweet friendships are beginning. 🥹 Throughout the year, these students will spend time reading together, practicing writing, getting to know one another, and building literacy skills along the way. And if last year taught us anything, there will probably be plenty of laughs, encouragement, and fun mixed in, too! At the end of the year, we’ll celebrate everything they’ve accomplished together with our annual Reading Buddies Picnic. 📖🧺

We love this partnership because the learning goes both ways. Our 1st graders get an older student cheering them on as they blossom into confident new readers, while our 8th graders have the opportunity to grow as leaders, mentors, and role models for some of the youngest members of our school community. ✨

At Bethlehem, fostering connection across grade levels is an important part of building a school where students truly know and care for one another. It feels so good to be back in the rhythm of a new school year, bringing beloved traditions like this one back to life. ❤️🤍💙

Happy reading, buddies! We can’t wait to watch these friendships—and reading skills—grow all year long! 🌱📚

🐾 Who Let the Dogs Out? (It was our teachers!) 🐾

Today is International Dog Day, and our faculty wanted to share some love for their favorite four-legged family members!

We’re playing a quick guessing game today: Can you match the dog to their teacher? 🐶👇

Drop your guesses in the comments below! (Example: Picture 1 = Mrs. Smith)

We’ll post the official answer key in the comments tomorrow afternoon! 🏆✨

🌸🌳 Our hallways are already filling up with student work, and we LOVE seeing our students take ownership of both their learning and the shared spaces that make Bethlehem feel like home!

Our 2nd grade friends have been busy creating some adorable beginning-of-the-year projects. Their colorful flowers share what each student is most excited about for the year ahead, while their “All About Me Trees” give us a peek at the unique personalities, interests, and gifts growing in Miss Zulfer’s classroom. 🍃💙

And it’s not just cute artwork! Students have also been thinking about how we treat one another through their Golden Rule stories, sharing ways they can “do to others as you would have them do to you” right here at school. ✝️ What a wonderful way to begin the year by talking about kindness, respect, and what it looks like to reflect Christ’s love in our classrooms and hallways.

Hallway displays are about so much more than making our building look cheerful. They help build school culture, celebrate student voices, and give our kids the opportunity to proudly say, “I made that!” 🎨✨ We can’t wait to watch these walls—and these 2nd graders—fill up with even more learning and growth this year!

🏠🖍️ Our middle schoolers are off to a great start! The first days of school included plenty of rules, routines, and procedure review (because we’ve got to get those out of the way), but we made sure to mix in plenty of fun, too!

For one of their first icebreakers, students were given a challenge that looked simple enough: draw a house complete with a door, windows, roof, chimney, and tree. The catch? No one could actually touch the marker! Instead, each student held a string attached to it, and the group had to work together to control every line. The results ranged from surprisingly impressive to… well… probably not headed to an art museum anytime soon. 😂🎨

But the finished product wasn’t really the point! Students had to communicate, cooperate, delegate responsibilities, listen to one another, adjust when something wasn’t working, and figure out who should lead at different moments. These are the kinds of skills that help build strong classmates, leaders, and communities—and we love finding fun ways to practice them together. ✨

At Bethlehem, we want our students to work hard, grow academically, and produce plenty of frame-worthy work this year…but we also want them to laugh, connect, and enjoy the people they’re learning alongside. We think this was a pretty great way to start! 💙✝️

First Day of School! Today we welcome our students back for a year "Grounded in Christ, Growing in Faith, and Abounding in Gratitude".

We pray for joy-filled friendships and curious minds as we see God's mercies made new each morning.

We'd love to celebrate this day with you! Share a photo of your kiddo's first day smile (or sleepy grin) in the comments. Marking these occasions together with our families is a wonderful part of our journey.

🎉📚 We’re officially ready to kick off the 2026–2027 school year at Bethlehem Lutheran School!

Thank you to all of the families who joined us for Orientation tonight! It was so good to see our hallways full again with so many familiar faces—and we were especially excited to welcome several new families into our Bethlehem community. ❤️🤍💙

We are grateful for the partnership of our parents and families as we begin another year of learning, growing, serving, and making memories together.

As we prepare to welcome students back through our doors, we invite you to join us in praying over the year ahead. Pray for our teachers and staff as they lead and serve, for our parents as they partner with us, and especially for our students—that they would grow in knowledge, confidence, character, friendship, and faith throughout the year. 🙏✝️

New classrooms, new lessons, new friendships, new adventures… here we go, BLS! ✨

We can’t wait to see what God has in store for our school family this year!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....or something like that.

Teachers returned to Bethlehem yesterday to begin preparations for the 2026-2027 school year. This week is full of safety meetings, analyzing student data, professional conversations, decorating classrooms, and preparing the important relationship building activities for the first few days of school.

In fact, our teachers were moving so quickly, that I couldn't catch any of them in action!

Summer is great, but we are excited to get back to the important work of supporting our students as they grow in grace and knowledge!

🦁🐯🦅 Lions and tigers and Lutherans... oh my!

Yesterday, the The Ohio District LCMS hosted one of its Zoo Day fellowship events for church workers, teachers, and their families at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and we were excited to spot a few familiar faces from Bethlehem enjoying a day together! ☀️💙

One of the best parts of being a Bethlehem family is that our community doesn't end when the school year does. Even during the summer months, it's always fun to reconnect, catch up on everyone's adventures, and spend time together outside the classroom. Add in some incredible animals and the beauty of God's creation, and it made for a wonderful day of fellowship! 🦒🦩

A huge thank you to the LCMS Ohio District and the Lutheran Church Extension Fund for providing this special opportunity for church workers and educators to connect, relax, and enjoy time with their families. We had a blast! ✝️

Have you run into other Bethlehem families or staff members this summer? We'd love to see it! 📸

Send your photos to [email protected] and you might just be featured on our page this summer. ❤️🤍💙
