Enjoying that soda? New research can reveal how much you drink
A University of Alaska Fairbanks scientist has shown that a chemical marker in the body can reliably reveal how much added sugar and how many sugar-sweetened drinks a person consumes. The marker works in people of different ages, sexes, races and diets.

HAPPENING TOMORROW! A few of our CANHR researchers, Dr. Andrea Bersamin, Evon Peter MA, Dr. Katie Cueva, and Ay'aqulluk Jim Chaliak BSW, will be presenting and/or moderating at the Opportunities in Population Health Research in Native Communities to Advance Health Equity workshop.
This workshop will bring together a multi-disciplinary panel of researchers whose expertise focuses on American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) health to assess current and future opportunities in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases, including heart and lung diseases, sleep disorders, cancer, and diabetes, as well as their related risk factors within AI/AN communities. Native community members will also participate to ensure their unique perspectives and experiences are reflected in the discussion. The workshop will identify key research gaps, opportunities for culturally centered programs, and barriers to progress. It will also propose future research directions, highlight strategies to enhance research capacity, and explore community-engaged participatory research strategies in alignment with Tribal customs, culture, and laws.
