CTC Academy is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides educational and therapeutic services for students with a diverse array of developmental disabilities through our collaborative educational program and support services for students and families. We first opened our doors as the Cerebral Palsy Center of Bergen County, NJ, on March 29, 1950. We began as a Center for children with Cerebral Palsy but over the past 70 years we have evolved into an innovative education institution that provides creative education and advanced therapies to students with many different types of disabilities – students who face physical, medical and developmental challenges. Now we offer two schools and follow the school continuum from Preschool through age 21 as well as Early Enrichment for children ages 18 months through 3 years. Our Fair Lawn Campus serves students 18 months through 6 years of age. Bolger Oakland Campus serves students ages 6 through 21 years of age.

This month, we're celebrating Physical Therapy Awareness with two photos of the CTC Oakland PT staff (because one couldn't hold this much PT power!)

Did you know that school physical therapists help students move, learn, and fully participate in school activities? Whether it's improving balance, building strength, or navigating the classroom, they play a vital role in helping students succeed every day.

We had the BEST time at our Fall Mixer! Here’s a quick recap of all our hands-on learning activities:

Fingerprint Stacking & Weaving: Practiced counting to 5 with finger paints and worked on fine motor skills through ribbon weaving.
Roll, Count, & Cover: Covered apple trees with pom-poms while practicing early math skills.
Bean bag Toss & Color Sorting: Sorted red, green, and yellow apples and tossed bean bags into matching buckets.
Light Box & Sensory Bin "Picking": Explored color mixing on the light table and "harvested" hidden apples from an oat sensory bin!

Continuous learning leads to continuous growth! The Fair Lawn Occupational Therapy team recently participated in a virtual training with a representative from Guided Hands—an innovative assistive device designed for children with limited upper extremity mobility.

This adaptive technology enables our students to write, draw, paint, and navigate touch-screen devices independently. By integrating these tools into our therapy sessions, we can better support students' IEP goals, enhance AAC communication, and foster creative self-expression.

We’re always committed to best practices and continuing education to bring the latest technology to our students at CTC!
