Central NJ friends: You are cordially invited to join me for a discussion at TCNJ to celebrate my newly released book! "Constructing Music," published by Oxford University Press, presents a new method for teaching music fundamentals that foregrounds creative coding practices and builds upon the computing skills that today’s students already possess. I will discuss the ideas behind "Constructing Music," share software examples, and raise ideas about the role of music as a proto-form of AI and its impacts on emotion, wellness, and creativity. Thursday, February 22 at 2pm in the Mayo Concert Hall at TCNJ, followed by a reception.

The Trenton Makes Music project is thrilled to release this video of Dr. Thomas Grice (1929-2017), virtuoso musician and educator who taught and mentored some of the most loved and respected entertainers of our time, including Sarah Dash (Labelle), Clifford Adams (Kool and the Gang), Michael Ray (Kool and the Gang, Sun Ra, Cosmic Krewe), and many more! In this intimate conversation with Sarah Dash, Music Ambassador for the City of Trenton, Grice tells his life story - from his childhood in Florida, to his decades teaching in the Trenton Public Schools, to the launching of the Thomas Grice Academy of Music. This video was recorded in 2016 as part of the Trenton Makes Music project, a collaboration between faculty and students at The College of New Jersey and community members that seeks to document the city's outsized contribution to America's popular music. https://youtu.be/CFPBH7-meP8.
