The Students Who Want to Stay | Fabretto 06/01/2026

When Annie Hall, Fabretto team member, visited Guatemala for the first time, she met high school students with Asociación Q'eqchi' Xch'ool Ixim who weren't asking how to leave; they were learning how to stay.

They are growing crops, starting businesses, and carrying new knowledge back to their families. What she saw wasn't a gap. It was potential, being built from the inside out.

The Students Who Want to Stay | Fabretto Two graduating high schoolers and one recent alumna greeted us as we entered a small office space in a rural mountainous area, Alta Verapaz, about 4 hours outside of Guatemala City. The young women were wearing their traditional Mayan clothes, and the young man was stealing glances at all of us Amer...

Across rural Guatemala, indigenous Maya girls have largely been left out of digital education. At Talita Kumi in San Pedro Carchá, that is continuing to change. 💻

Recently, a Fabretto team member visited Fundemi Talita Kumi to deliver new digital literacy materials to students and teachers, one guide on building a digital world, another on staying safe in it. Two skills every student deserves. ✔️🌱

Last month, our Friends of Fabretto community traveled to Guatemala 🇬🇹 to visit Seeds for Progress, Fundemi Talita Kumi, and Asociación Q'eqchi' Xch'ool Ixim. They met the students and teachers who show up every day, and left with a deeper understanding of what this work really looks like on the ground.

We are so grateful to everyone who made the journey. And to the communities who opened their doors: thank you. 💚

For years, students at Caserío Tizamarté Primary School in Chiquimula, Guatemala attended class in an aging structure that could no longer keep up with its growing community. The bathrooms were inadequate. The space was too small. And the students deserved better.

Through a collaboration between Seeds for Progress, Roviralta Foundation, and Fabretto Children's Foundation, with support from the Municipality of Camotán, and additional partners that changed. Today, 219 students, nearly evenly split between boys and girls, have access to two new classrooms with granite flooring, secure windows, and proper desks, as well as a brand new sanitation facility built with dignity in mind.

When children have clean, safe, well-equipped spaces to learn, they stay in school. And when they stay in school, their futures change. Read the full story at the link below. 🌱

Ansley has a passion for coffee, travel, and community impact. ☕ When she visited Guatemala with Seeds for Progress earlier this year, she saw firsthand what is behind the cup she knows and loves.

"It is much more complex than just a cup of coffee. It is a family getting fed, it is children going to the Seeds Camp, and it is organizations, such as Fabretto, who bring light to really critical issues."

Over the course of one week, she visited four schools, a coffee farm, and a processing plant, and came back with a perspective she could not have gotten any other way. ✨
