Evanston Hungry Children Backpack Program

Evanston Hungry Children Backpack Program An effort of cooperation between community partners to provide chronically hungry children a weekend’s worth of food each Friday. What is the BackPack Program?

Address:

1148 Front Street
Evanston, WY 82930 It is an important goal for a number of people and organizations in Evanston to ensure that all children in our community have the healthy food they need to grow strong in body and mind. School breakfast and lunch only meet the needs of children five days a week. The BackPack Program will provide food for the weekend to help meet children’s nutritiona

l needs when these other programs are not available. An effort of cooperation involving public schools, human service organizations and other community partners to provide chronically hungry children with additional nutritional support by supplying a weekend’s worth of food each Friday. Each child will receive one bag consisting of six balanced meals including whole-grain cereals, protein-rich entrées, canned fruits and vegetables, milk and snacks. Each BackPack is designed to provide the nutritional equivalent of two school breakfast and two school lunches - the very meals that a child who relies on these free or reduced-price meals through the school lunch program are missing on the weekends.

Thank you Melaina, Dwayne, and all the women of Saint Mary Magdalene Church for putting together these amazing food bags for our kids for Spring/Easter break. 💛

They included Slim Jim’s, chips, mac & cheese, raisins, granola bars, oranges, fruit cups, ramen, applesauce pouches, Rice Krispy treats, and Pop-Tarts.

What a thoughtful and generous gesture — it is truly appreciated and will make a big difference for so many kids. 🐣🌷
