Ciencia para Todos is an organization recently formed with the mission of addressing the achievement gap between Latino students and non-minority counterparts. We design and implement community-centered educational programs offered in Spanish, such as our main program, Jugando con la Ciencia (JCLC), aimed at overcoming poor scientific literacy within this underrepresented population segment, str
engthen familial bonds by inviting the parents to the sessions and offer a space where Latino children can practice Spanish. Our main goal is to develop mentorship-based programs led by Hispanic/Latino scientists and graduate students from STEM–science, technology, engineering and math—fields to foster career aspirations of Latino students, as well as to improve skills such as critical thinking, confidence, respect, self-esteem and cooperation, which are critically important in underrepresented minority children, who in many cases, face identity problems. The disparities in achievement development does not only affect this minority group., Designing more effective and integrative approaches for science engagement will have a direct impact on the future nation’s workforce and economy.
