History will be made on Monday, March 14th at 7:00 pm at the Joseph E. Hill Building when the District 65 School Board votes on the proposal to open a new school in the 5th Ward. If you are available, please consider attending this monumental event.
Many of you are familiar with the history of the 5th Ward neighborhood public school that was closed due to desegregation plans in the 1960s. The young students who attended this predominately Black elementary school were force to leave their neighborhoods by bus, to provide diversity for the schools in North Evanston.
Returning an elementary school to the 5th Ward will be an amazing opportunity for students, as well as the surrounding community.

“I’m pleased to report that STEM-School Evanston was awarded a $54,000 Racial Equity grant from Northwestern University to fund a community research project! We were one of ten organizations selected to receive a partnership grant. Northwestern created this grant to support ideas which seek to solve the systemic problems of racial inequity in local neighborhoods. We are humbled and excited!”
