General information

- There are more slaves today than at any other time in human history - about 27 million slaves exist in the world today, according to the U.S. State Department.
- Slavery takes on many and various forms - from sex and labor trafficking, domestic servitude to forced child labor.
- It happens everywhere, including the U.S., which is the second highest destination in the world for trafficked victims.
- It is also happening in Chicago: 16,000 – 25,000 women and girls are trafficked annually in Chicago.
