In this capstone track, students apply financial analysis, data-driven insights, and economic principles to address real-world challenges and inform better public policy. Through hands-on projects, they develop evidence-based decision-making skills, strengthen policy-focused problem-solving abilities, and create meaningful impact in communities

Throwback to the rainy start of our journey

Last month, our students kicked off their northwestern journey with an exciting campus tour! They strolled along leafy paths, enjoyed the fresh air, discovered Northwestern’s iconic the Rock, and admired the beautiful collegiate architecture of Deering Library. They even explored a hidden passage leading to the University Library! After visiting Norris University Center which is the home to dining spots and the campus bookstore, they made their way to our home base, Annenberg Hall.
A little rain didn’t wear down our students’ spirits. With curiosity and excitement, they began their campus adventure together! ☔️💜

Building connections. Strengthening leadership. Creating opportunities.

This week, our Dual Master's Degree students participated in an engaging "Networking and Team Dynamics: Building Your Leadership Skills" workshop facilitated by Dahlia Shaewitz.

Through interactive networking exercises, self-assessments, and reflective discussions, students explored their communication styles, learned effective strategies for building meaningful professional relationships, and developed skills to collaborate more successfully in team environments. From navigating casual conversations to fostering professional connections, participants gained practical tools that will support their academic, personal, and career growth.

Strong networks and effective teamwork are essential to leadership and lifelong success, and we are proud to provide opportunities that empower our students to grow with confidence.

A special thank you to Dahlia Shaewitz for sharing her expertise and guiding these impactful sessions. We also commend our students for their enthusiasm, active participation, and commitment to their professional development. Building confidence, connections, and opportunities at Northwestern!



Earlier this month, our Dual Master’s Degree students participated in "Get the Opportunities You Came For: Practical Skills for Networking, Communication, and Success in the U.S. Graduate Experience", a two-part professional development workshop series facilitated by Dr. Gizem Toska.



Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and guided reflection, participants explored strategies for successfully navigating new academic and professional environments, building confidence during periods of transition, and understanding the expectations that shape graduate education in the United States. The series also focused on effective communication, networking, and relationship-building, equipping students with tools to engage confidently with faculty, supervisors, alumni, recruiters, and colleagues.



We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Toska for sharing her expertise and to all of the students who contributed to the meaningful conversations and activities. We hope the skills and insights gained through these workshops will support participants throughout their Northwestern experience and as they pursue their future academic and professional goals.

What a wonderful way to kick off the new academic year! On June 18, we welcomed our newest MSSEP cohort to the program with a day focused on connection, community, and new beginnings.
 
During our orientation, students had the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and fellow classmates, learn about valuable campus resources, and begin building the relationships that will support them throughout their journey. The morning was filled with engaging conversations, networking, and plenty of good food!
 
The celebration continued in the evening at Double Clutch Brewing Company, where students came together for a fun social gathering featuring food, games, karaoke, and lots of laughter. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen connections and start building the vibrant MSSEP community that makes our program so special.
 
We were also fortunate to be joined by four MSSEP alumni who shared their experiences, insights, and advice with our incoming students. Their stories offered inspiration and perspective, and we were delighted to thank them with small gifts as a token of our appreciation. 💜
 
Here’s to new friendships, meaningful connections, and an exciting year ahead. Welcome to MSSEP!
