Dear AGCS Families and Supporters,
First, I want to say thank you. Because families, students, and supporters spoke out last year, AB 84 was stopped. That is a real win—and one worth celebrating. Together, our voices made a difference!
As a quick refresher: AB 84 proposed sweeping, costly mandates that would have diverted money from classrooms, buried schools in red tape, and reduced student access to public school options. As an alternative, SB 414 offered a more targeted, workable approach to accountability—one the governor ultimately vetoed due to cost concerns.
The debate continues this year. With AB 84 stalled in the State Senate and SB 414 vetoed, charter school issues are now being discussed in the state budget, where the governor has asked stakeholders to find a compromise. While the issues are the same, the public decision-making process will be different.
That's why I'm sharing this opportunity for you to learn more at an important upcoming webinar hosted by the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) about how to participate in the state budget process.
