We all hear about Difficult Behaviors and have even experienced them. Discovering what sets it off is important as is WHY. The WHY will help you find ways to modify the way you do things so the trigger doesn't happen. Think about yourself, there's something that people do that set you off too. If they didn't do it you wouldn't get upset...your loved one is the same, they just can't articulate it so it comes out in their behavior. You got this! Clip alarms are a great tool if your loved one is unsteady on their feet. You clip it on their back and when they attempt to stand it disengages the pin sounding an alarm. It will startle them, and give you time to get to their side to prevent a fall. You can do this when they are sitting or sleeping. There's all kinds of "adaptive silverware" that your loved one can use to continue to be independent in eating. There's some that help stabilize tremors, some bend, some are weighted to help with tremors, or you can have bigger handles so they can hold it easier. This is something everyone struggles with at some point, especially if the death is recent. By now we all should know not to tell them their mom has died, but what about when it's recent? Here's my thoughts...what GOOD is going to come out of it? They will feel incredible grief and sadness just to forget it and revert to the time when that person was living. Instead look at it like this....there is only 1 gift this disease brings, and that is that they don't have to ever feel the pain and grief of losing someone they love. If you could take your own level of sadness away...wouldn't you? Give them that gift. They don't need to attend the funeral, instead when they bring up that person, have them share stories...that becomes their own private memorial, with none of the sadness. You got this!!
