Robert Kimbrough ~ Wednesday 7pm ~ The Twisted Duck ~ 529 W Centennial Blvd. ~ No Cover
‘DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW’.
Now we're talking about an authentic, born and bred at the source, cotton patch soul blues man flying into town by special invitation straight from North Mississippi. Robert Kimbrough Sr. will be the Featured Artist at the Wednesday Jam. Man...I'm talkin first hand Mississippi Blues Royalty, Junior’s Juke Joint style of Cotton Patch Soul Blues in the house. I have been fortunate to have played drums with Kimbrough on a couple of his tour legs and I promise this is one of those ‘DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW’.
The Kimbrough name is part of a blues dynasty that remains strong today, bringing people from all over the world to see and hear them play. The Cotton Patch Soul Blues style that Robert plays is a straight link to the music that his father originated in North Mississippi. It is a deep soul sound that can be linked back to his ancestors coming from the cotton fields, singing and ‘hollering‘ as they worked in the tall rows of Mississippi cotton. This distinct and somewhat underground style of blues is rooted in hypnotic, rhythms and dance-able grooves.
FYI: The Black Keys released an entire album in 2006 of Junior Kimbrough cover songs called Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough. Up until the mid 80s, the only way to hear this music was to visit a church-turned-blues-den founded by Junior Kimbrough in Chulahoma, MS known as Junior's Juke Joint that unfortunately burned down in 2000.
The sign-up for the open jam begins around 5:30pm. Music at 7pm. Bass amp, drums, keys and PA are provided. Guitar players and harmonica players, please bring an amp.
Remember to arrive early and have fun on purpose. Check out the menu special board, grab a seat, eat a meal and enjoy the legendary blues jam vibe Wednesday nights at The Twisted Duck 529 Centennial Blvd. NO COVER.

“Tsuyoshi Matsuo, Eugene’s hot new bluesman” ~ Wednesday 7pm ~ The Twisted Duck ~ 529 W Centennial Blvd. ~ No Cover
Before I tell the story, I will start by saying that I saw an old article in the Register Guard with a cool photo of Tsuyoshi Matsuo with the caption : “Tsuyoshi Matsuo, Eugene’s hot new bluesman”. This would be a good time for a ‘mic drop’, right? Put WEDNESDAY, JULY 17th on your calendar because it's HAPPENING on WEDNESDAY's at THE TWISTED DUCK!
So, I received a phone call from Skip Jones last week telling me about his friend, Tsuyoshi Matsuo, who will be visiting Eugene from Izumiotsu, Osaka Japan where he is both a bluesman and a Physician. Absolutely we all want to see him play when he is in town. So, I got on the phone and with the understanding of some cool musicians I started to move around some of the scheduling to make it happen. Thank you Skip.
Matsuo, a physician, also went to The Guitar Institute of Technology in 1985. Then, in 1987 Tsuyoshi was hanging out in Ashland where he met Curtis Salgato. Tsuyoshi showed up in Eugene after Salgato told him there were some cool blues jams here, referring to Rooster’s jam at Taylors. While Matsuo was in Eugene, he was mentored by the great late James Bradshaw. This really is a moment here in Eugene blues history. Plan to show up Wednesday to jam out with Tsuyoshi Matsuo while he is back in town.
The Wednesday Jam is dedicated to fostering an inclusive space where we bring together seasoned musicians, aspiring artists, and passionate blues lovers to create that 'magic in the room'.
Sign-up for the open jam begins around 5:30pm. Music starts at 7pm. Bass amp, drums, keys and PA are provided. Guitar players and harmonica players, please bring an amp.
Be sure to arrive early to grab a seat and have a bite to eat. Enjoy the legendary blues jam vibe Wednesday nights at The Twisted Duck 529 Centennial Blvd.
