As we approach our Spring Recital on 4.21 @ Main Street Scoops & Sweets in downtown Eudora, we’d like to highlight our instructors!
Matthew Mulnix is an alternative pop/rock musician from Lawrence, KS. Mulnix has released three albums of self described “emo for soccer moms” genre material, including The Truth Exposed in 2013, Relative North in 2017, and Sugar Coated Sadness in 2022. His music has been featured in national publications such as Substream Magazine and The Alternative.
Mulnix was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a juvenile form of Macular Degeneration, at age 9 in 2001. With sheet music reading being cumbersome for a visually impaired student, Matthew elected to pursue public school music education by ear, rather than sight.
Mulnix is founder of Lawrence Songwriter Showcase, a home studio and closed mic competition that allows local songwriters to record and release their material. Matthew also works as a custom songwriter for Songfinch, as well as providing co-writing and instrumentation services for local artists. Matthew is co-founder and guitarist of MO based country band Quinton Cox & Co., and can be seen as an instrumentalist for B Howard Crist, Jenna & Martin, Megan Luttrell, Damaris, and Jeannie & Tal.
In music education, Matthew is Founder & Instructor at Free State Music Academy (Eudora, KS), Instructor & Director of Youth Ensembles at Americana Music Academy, and Instructor at Guitarma. Receiving Best of Lawrence designations in the category of Private Music Lessons in 2020-2023, Matthew loves assisting students through the music analysis and songwriting process.
