The tallest recorded oak trees in the world are Chestnut-leaved oaks (Quercus castaneifolia) located in the Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran. The tallest specimen stands at an astonishing 63 meters (208 feet) tall. This tree is not the tallest specimen but it’s close, measured at 61 meters tall.

Meet “Rhino Foot” — an ancient Sitka Spruce so massive it measures over 11 feet across at chest height. Its distinctive thickset base is the reason for the nickname. Sitka Spruce commonly grow from 125 to 180 feet (38 to 55 meters) tall, with exceptional trees exceeding 330 feet (100 meters). Trunks can measure up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) or more in diameter and often lives for 600 to 800 years, with some specimens reaching up to 1,000 years old. Native to the Pacific coast of North America, stretching from northern California up to Alaska. It relies heavily on coastal moisture, fog, and marine air, rarely growing more than 40 to 50 miles inland. 🌲

A whopper of a water oak! This water oak (Quercus nigra) is the largest of its species ever documented in the state, and a potential new national champion for its size! The “Emile Creek Shelter Big Tree” in the Emile Cr. Botanical Preserve, Umpqua N.F. (North Umpqua River watershed), Oregon. It’s a Douglas Fir, 12.6 feet in diameter, about 200ft. tall, and a wide crown spread of nearly 100 feet. Probably the 4th or 5th largest tree in Oregon! Giant, American Sycamore! The only known single stem tree in Pennsylvania that is over 30’ in circumference. Also, the largest in points. Platanus occidentalis. The American Sycamore is a massive, fast-growing deciduous tree native to eastern and central North America, it features a thick trunk, mottled peeling bark, and can live for hundreds of years.

A huge old Peruvian peppertree measuring 8.9 metres in girth, at Nathalia in Australia. Schinus molle, known as the Peruvian peppertree or California pepper tree, is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to South America's arid regions. Growing up to 50 feet tall, it features graceful drooping branches, highly aromatic fern-like leaves, and dense clusters of bright pink or red berries on female trees.

The bunya pine (Araucaria bidwillii), or bunya bunya, is a massive evergreen conifer native to Australia. Famous for dropping enormous 20-to-25-pound pine cones, it holds deep cultural significance for Indigenous Australians and dates back to the Jurassic period.
