Construction 2 students heard a presentation from Jacob D from  Universal Technical Institute of Canton. U.T.I has many programs related to the trades such as welding, industrial maintenance, aircraft maintenance, wind turbines maintenance, automotive engine/body, diesel mechanic, and marine/ power sports technician.

Construction 1 class has begun their first project of lantern boxes. A few students have finished up already. Students used handsaws, scroll saws, jigsaws, sandpaper, and brad nailers during this project.

Home Maintenance class has been learning about insulation, R value, home HVAC systems, and ductwork. Students were able to help construct a piece of square ductwork, fasten together using drives, cut a hole for a takeoff, and install the takeoff.

8th grade Woodworking has been working on lantern boxes as well. A few students are getting close to finishing. Pics to come!

Today we took 14 women from our Construction classes down to Cygnet, Ohio, where Local 18 Operators and Engineers put on their “She Dig” event. The event is only open to women that might be interested in becoming an operator. The ladies were able to question women from the industry and discuss hardships they might face, as well as rewards that will come with the job. The ladies were also able to operate a mini excavator, backhoe, crane, excavator, roller, and telehandler. Thank you to Dr. Albain for using your connections to give the girls this opportunity.

Home Maintenance class has been learning about drywall textures, and what tools are needed. Each group was able to apply texture with the texture gun.

Construction 2 class has started building picnic tables that will be for sale in the future.

Construction classes are in full swing!

8th Grade woodworking class have been learning safety/ hazard recognition, how to properly read a tape measure, types of hammers and use, and about different types of drills and bits.

Construction 1 classes have been learning safety/ hazard recognition, how to properly read a tape measure, and about different types of drills and bits.

Home Maintenance class has been learning how to locate studs in walls, how to frame a wall, how to hang drywall, and how to patch different size drywall holes with tape, using a California patch, or cutting a section out completely to the studs

Construction 2 class has been learning safety/ hazard recognition, site layout using a transit level, components of wall framing, and how to properly layout a wall, floor, or roof using 16” O.C, 19.2” O.C, and 24” O.C.

The 2026/2027 school year has started! We are looking for a few sheds for our students to build this year. We currently have 25 students in our Construction 2 class. The goal is to get 4 more sheds, as we already have one commitment. If you’re interested please reach out so we can get you an estimate. Looking forward to a great year! Thank you for your support!

Graduates from last year or experienced Machinists. FEDCO here in Monroe has reached out and is looking to fill 2 entry level positions, as well as some others if you know a person with experience. We took a field trip to there shop last year. They produce stainless steel pumps. Their shop is state of the art. Anyone interested please message me and I will forward you the information.
