What if the things filling our homes are also quietly filling our minds? In this second episode of the Becoming Lighter series, Treenah Kight, founder of Live Energized, shares what has changed since her family committed to letting go of twenty-five percent of their belongings by the end of the year...

🚨 ADHD FRIENDS: DO NOT READ THIS POST AND DECIDE TO DECLUTTER YOUR ENTIRE HOUSE TONIGHT. šŸ˜‚

You know who you are.

Instead, let’s do this the ADHD-friendly way:

ā±ļø Set a timer for 15 minutes.

Pick ONE thing.

Not the kitchen → one drawer.

Not your closet → one category of clothing.

Not the basement → one bin.

Make three piles:

KEEP.
DONATE.
TRASH.

And when that timer goes off?

STOP.

Because we’re practicing completion—not chasing perfection.

Completion creates momentum.

Overwhelm creates avoidance.

One drawer. One shelf. One bag. One decision your future self doesn’t have to make again.

That’s how we’re becoming lighter. āš”ļø

Save this one for the next time your ADHD brain suddenly decides at 9:47 p.m. that tonight is DEFINITELY the night to reorganize the entire house. 😜

You were not made to carry it all.

And lately, I’ve been wondering how much of what exhausts us was never actually ours to carry in the first place.

The stuff.

The schedules.

The guilt.

The ā€œjust in case.ā€

The pressure to have the right outfit, the right house, the right things for every occasion.

We live in a world constantly whispering:

More. More. More.

But God gave us discernment.

We are allowed to say no.

We are allowed to borrow.

We are allowed to wear it again.

We are allowed to shop our own homes.

We are allowed to release what no longer serves the season we are entering.

And we are allowed to create homes—and lives—that give us room to hear Him more clearly.

Maybe becoming lighter isn’t about becoming less.

Maybe it’s about making room to become more of who God created you to be. šŸ¤

Clutter Quietly Fills Your Mind

Clutter isn’t just what fills your home.

It quietly fills your mind.

And if you have ADHD, you probably know exactly what I mean.

For a long time, I thought I needed:

A better planner.
Better time management.
More discipline.
Another organization system.

What I actually needed?

Fewer open tabs.

Every unfinished project, overflowing drawer, pile waiting to be donated and item I planned to sell was another tiny thing asking my brain to remember it existed.

Reducing what competes for your attention isn’t just about having a pretty house.

For an ADHD brain, it can be an accommodation.

You aren’t trying to fix yourself.

You’re creating an environment that better supports the brain God gave you. šŸ¤

That has become one of the biggest lessons of our 25% challenge.

šŸŽ§ I’m diving deeper into it in Episode 2 of Becoming Lighter, dropping August 23 on Backpacking Through ADHD.

What if the clutter you see isn’t the only clutter you’re carrying?

The donation bag by the door.

The clothes you keep meaning to sell.

The junk drawer you’ve been avoiding.

The Amazon return riding around in your backseat. 😬

The project you bought ALLLL the supplies for…and then completely lost interest in.

Even when you aren’t actively dealing with those things, your ADHD brain may still be holding onto them.

In Episode 2 of Becoming Lighter, we’re talking about what happened when my family decided to let go of 25% of our belongings—and why this experiment has turned into a much bigger lesson about ADHD, faith, family and stewardship.

Because maybe we don’t need another organization system.

Maybe we need fewer things that require organizing.

šŸŽ§ Backpacking Through ADHD: Becoming Lighter, Episode 2 drops August 23.

Send this to the friend whose brain currently has 47 tabs open. 😜

I’m not trying to become a minimalist.

I’m trying to become lighter.

Earlier this year, my family committed to letting go of 25% of our belongings before the end of 2026 and somewhere along the way, I realized this was about so much more than our stuff.

Because everything we own asks something from us.

Put me away.
Wash me.
Organize me.
Sell me.
Fix me.
Remember where you put me. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

And for an ADHD brain? Those little demands can become a LOT of open tabs.

I’m starting to believe God didn’t put this challenge on my heart because He wants me to have an emptier house.

I think He wants me to have more room for what matters.

More peace. More creativity. More connection. More availability.

The goal isn’t to own less.

It’s to carry less. šŸŽ’

šŸŽ§ I’m talking all about it in Episode 2 of my Becoming Lighter series on Backpacking Through ADHD with

This Week's Family Lesson
Instead of asking...
"How was school?"
Try asking:
• What are you excited about right now?
• What's making you a little nervous?
Then answer those same questions yourself.
Our kids don't need parents who have all the answers.
They need parents who show them that courage is something we all practice

From my journal...
I realized something while writing this episode.
None of these conversations were ever really about school.
They were about becoming.
Every new beginning teaches our children something about who they are.
And every new beginning teaches us something about the parents we're becoming.
Sometimes I think we're growing right alongside them.

Every new beginning asks us to take a step before we can see the whole trail. This weekend, we're wrapping up our five-pa...

Every new beginning asks us to take a step before we can see the whole trail.
This weekend, we're wrapping up our five-part Becoming Together series with a conversation that's about so much more than back-to-school.
It's about preparing our kids—and ourselves—for every new beginning life brings.
I hope you'll join me this weekend.
