If you read all the information contained you will note there is no timeline for Pennsylvania returning to stocking 1 million Steelhead Trout annually. Please call Senator Dan Laughlin and Bob Merski and ask for some information:
1. When will Pennsylvania have capacity to rear 1 million Steelhead within the Lake Erie watershed
2. If there is no timeline, can Ohio and New York step up their stocking amounts? (The Great Lakes Fishery Commission’s Lake Erie Committee sets stocking allotments, but if we do not exceed the total amount there shouldn’t be an issue with temporary adjustments)
I’d just like to see some clarity of what’s to come. It’s fantastic to see there are property acquisitions and stream improvements happening, but without substantial stocking our runs will continue to diminish. We just don’t have the natural reproduction we need to sustain a sport fishery without stocking.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Board of Commissioners held its quarterly business meeting on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The board approved a new minimum size limit for trout from seven inches to nine inches. This increase will prohibit the harvest of more than 99% of the state's wild Brook Trout. The amendment will go into effect on January 1, 2027.
The board also welcomed Steve Ketterer of Harrisburg to the board as a Boatingat-Large commissioner and elected Commissioner Donald K. Anderson as president and Commissioner William Gibney as vice president.

Fly casting skills development!
Why? Because if you cannot deliver your fly to the fish, you are incredibly unlikely to catch them! It’s a good group of individuals with a wealth of knowledge. Get Gary to sign your copy of Keystone Fly Fishing!
