Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp: July 5-10, 2026 at the Wallowa Elementary School in Wallowa. Week-long classes are $200.

Ours is a week-long, small, inexpensive and family oriented music workshop focused on traditional string instruments, begun in 2005. Our goals this year include teaching students how to jam, and enhance dance fiddling by providing more in-house dance instruction supported by student musicians. Class instructors will collaborate curriculum among the different instruments. There is special discount

🪕 Banjo Class Hybrid Option 🪕

Banjo 🪕 students of the last few years (especially those on the fence about coming without an official banjo teacher)...

Karen (great banjo player) and Richard Melling plan to offer a hybrid style class. Students could spend half the morning with Richard (or with Matt Bell) — working on jamming / singing / playing with others, and Karen would be willing to work in a small group (or 1:1) for the other morning session on songs and tunes. Sign up for Richard or Matt’s class for this option.

I am so happy to be teaching guitar and singing again this year at the Wallowa Fiddle Camp in early July.

This is a wonderful and affordable camp in the town of Wallowa. I’ll be teaching a class aimed at late beginning and intermediate musicians who would like to improve their skills and grow as musicians. We’ll focus on bluegrass / old-time repertoire, singing technique, backing fiddle tunes, and everything you need to be popular in jam sessions. While the focus is on guitar, other string instruments are welcome.

The camp features other wonderful guitar, fiddle, and youth classes, square dances, opportunities to get into nature, and lots of time for jamming. The dates are July 5-10. You can find out more at https://wvmusicalliance.org/wftc-2026/

Please take a moment to pass this along to anyone who might be interested.

Next week’s Fiddle tune will be whiskey before breakfast. Here’s a slightly simplified version that is meant to be used alongside the twin Fiddle version but can also be played as a solo.
