Akin to how a kaleidoscope uses a triangle of three mirrors to create an entrancing image, MirrorrorriM: The Alchemy of Play utilizes a triangle of Art, Play, and Interactivity to create a whole-body experience. The MirrorrorriM kaleidoscope is as long as a school bus and takes at least eight people working together to spin. Instead of glass and beads creating shapes and patterns, MirrorrorriM uses people, lasers, and a fire wheel. Participants can choose to be part of the team spinning the kaleidoscope or get into the “human roll chamber” by slipping their feet into bindings and going for a spin! Or, if you just really like fire, turn the hand crank to manipulate the fire wheel that lights the kaleidoscopic tube. MirrorrorriM is a full body experience whether you’re spinning or being spun, but even just enjoying the results has been elevated: instead of simply putting your eye up to the kaleidoscope, our project allows you to immerse yourself fully in the Observation Room. This room is walled completely by mirrors, creating an infinity effect. The Observation Room is the best place to view the ever changing images that the other participants create with their bodies. This is more than a hands-on experience—it’s a Bodies-On-Art experience.
