Way to go Dr. Schultz! You help make West Side the Best Side!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT!

Join us in congratulating Dr. Natalie Schultz on being selected for the National History Day Professional Development Program! Dr. Schultz has been an educator for 24 years and currently teaches 8th grade U.S. History (High Ability, Honors, and General Ed) at West Side Middle School.

Four years ago, Dr. Schultz started the High Ability cohort, making participation in National History Day a requirement for those students. After her first year and having students go from regionals to the state competition, Dr. Schultz wanted to learn more about the program and began volunteering as a regional judge. It was during this time that she was invited to apply for the program.

Dr. Schultz will be learning new strategies, such as reading primary and secondary sources to determine their validity and using them to write historical arguments. Learning these new strategies allows Dr. Schultz to provide her students with new ways of approaching primary and secondary source materials. She is looking forward to implementing what she learns across all levels so that every student is challenged to improve their document analysis, research, and argumentative writing skills.

Let's congratulate Dr. Schultz on this well-deserved opportunity!
