Well, those who decide these things have mandated universal masking in our local hospitals.

It's funny how Covid impacted care. For what we had been told about Covid, there was a logical, if not science-backed, explanation for universal masking.

But now, with various normal winter virus spread, here we are again.

And I'm much less sympathetic to the argument than I was.

Covid broke the system.

It laid bare that most "official" communication was for narrative and behavior control, not truth.

It taught us that "the science" was not as cut-and-dry as that magical phrase once meant.

I want science to be maximally truth-seeking.

But scientists have bosses and get paychecks.

And so they can be influenced by facts other than the truth they seek.

I will follow good evidence.

But so much of The Science is expert opinion, not actual science.

The smartest of us rarely speak in absolutes.

Because the more we know, the more we realize that we don't Know.

It's good to go with our best guess.

But that's not Knowing.
