The one board member with some common sense just resigned. 😭 He cited personal reasons, then stood up and left.
Thank you, Mike Callahan. We appreciate you listening, responding and standing up for parents.

Well that was quick. I'm cautiously optimistic! He seems like a very experienced superintendent with an academic focus. Here's hoping this begins to right the ship! But I'm pretty sure he doesn't need Dan to train him for A YEAR. 👀
Congratulations to Dr. Ted Knight, ESD Academic Systems Consultant, who was named ESD Superintendent solo finalist at last night's ESD Special Board Meeting.
Ted was interviewed by the board during the meeting. You can view his interview here:

Following Superintendent Dan Snowberger's recent announcement of his intent to retire, Ted was narrowed down to the short list of candidates for the position.
Ted has spent his entire career working in education. He grew up in Southern Colorado Springs, starting off as a teacher at the same middle school he attended as a student.
He eventually became a principal and rose up the leadership ranks. He spent eight years working at Douglas County School District, ultimately becoming Assistant Superintendent of the district. He then went on to become Superintendent in California.

As part of the next steps in the process, we will soon be hosting a Town Hall with Ted where community members will have the opportunity to ask him questions about his experience and vision for Elizabeth School District.
We will be announcing those details in the coming days. Stay tuned!

Perhaps I'm not the only one who noticed? 🧐

In February, Superintendent Dan Snowberger canceled a public superintendent forum at the last minute, and never rescheduled it. That was a missed opportunity for families and community members to ask questions, share concerns, and engage in an open, transparent conversation about our schools.
Yet, as these images show, he has time to appear at political events and partisan gatherings.
Regardless of where anyone stands politically, public education leadership should prioritize accessibility, accountability, and communication with the community they serve. Families deserve opportunities to be heard, ask questions, and have a dialogue.
If there wasn’t time for a superintendent forum for the public, how is there time for these events?
We should expect better. Our students, parents, and community deserve better. It’s hard not to notice the priorities here.
(And yes, I do email him my questions. And no, he does not reply.)

My letter to the board and superintendent:
It's disappointing to hear you've overridden the choice of parents to allow their kids to attend the Elitch band day. This tradition of excellence is part of what makes our band so great! Music is a keystone for academics and math linking to creativity and teamwork. Please stop thinking you know better than parents. They signed the waiver and paid. Remove your restriction.

ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT FAMILIES:
Make sure you fill out the district/school parent survey, it was last emailed out on Sunday from Jeff M. The last day to submit them is tomorrow (Wednesday).
Please be honest as these are anonymous and they NEED to hear from you.

School whiplash is real.
Just 6 days ago, Elizabeth Classical Academy announced it was opening. Today, they’ve already reversed course.
They used the Frontier building address, the same location where Independence Classical Academy has been working to open for two years. So who approved a second school at the same site? This was never discussed publicly by the Elizabeth School Board.
We’ve seen how this plays out in other districts. Is this an ErBOCES-style takeover attempt? Is there a push to sideline ICA before it even opens?
Meanwhile, Legacy Homeschool group is already established and growing. So why are additional groups suddenly stacking into the same space?
Parents and the community deserve clear answers.
What is actually going on here? Where's the transparency we were all promised?
