Legends Weekend is about more than a game—it’s about coming home. 💙

Tonight’s ECSU Meet & Greet was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with alumni, friends, supporters and members of the Viking family following today’s Dr. Claudie J. Mackey Golf Tournament.

These moments remind us that the strength of ECSU is rooted in the people who believe in our mission, celebrate our legacy and continue to invest in our future.

Today, we kicked off Legends Weekend on the green at the Dr. Claudie J. Mackey Golf Tournament! ⛳️

This tournament honors a legend, celebrates the impact of those who came before us, and brings Vikings together in the spirit of fellowship and tradition.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the course and helped make today’s tournament a great start to a weekend dedicated to legacy, connection and Viking pride.

Challenge accepted! 🧊

I was proud to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge alongside our Elizabeth City State University community. It’s a fun way to raise awareness, bring people together and support an important cause.

At ECSU, we believe in showing up, getting involved and leading by example—on campus and throughout our community. And sometimes, leadership means being willing to get a little wet!

I now challenge North Carolina HBCUs: Barber-Scotia College, Bennett College, Fayetteville State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Livingstone College, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, Saint Augustine's University, Shaw University, and Winston-Salem State University.

✈️ What an inspiring day in aviation!

It was a privilege to welcome our newest Vikings and members of the community to ECSU’s Aviation Science Open House at the Elizabeth City Regional Airport on National Aviation Day.

I was especially honored to share the day with Captain Theresa Claiborne, the first African American female pilot to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Her remarkable journey, leadership and commitment to opening doors for others exemplify the kind of courage and determination we want to inspire in our students.

As we showcased our facilities and fleet, we also showcased something even greater—the opportunities ahead for our students. At ECSU, we are preparing the next generation of aviation leaders to reach new heights.

Day two of the fall semester was another great day to be a Viking!

I enjoyed spending time with our students throughout the day—from the outdoor BBQ and campus job fair to the pool party that brought the day to a close.

These moments are about more than events. They are opportunities to connect, build community and make sure our students know that they are seen, supported and valued.

The energy across campus is strong, and I’m excited about what’s ahead for our Vikings. We’re just getting started!

What a way to begin a new academic year! 💙

Today, I had the opportunity to visit several classrooms, reconnect with our faculty and staff, and most importantly, welcome our students back to Elizabeth City State University.

There is something special about the energy of the first day — the excitement, the anticipation and the sense of possibility that comes with a new beginning. I enjoyed seeing our students engaged in the classroom and ready to learn, grow and make their mark.

And, of course, we had to end the day with a little ice cream! 🍦

I’m excited about what lies ahead for our Vikings. This is a new year, a new opportunity and another step in our ASCEND 2030 journey.

A New Chapter Begins 🎓💙

Today, I welcomed our newest students at the New and Transfer Student Pinning Ceremony—their first official event as Elizabeth City State University Vikings.

To our freshmen: your pin represents more than your arrival at ECSU. It represents the beginning of a journey, a community that believes in you, and the opportunity to build upon the legacy of those who came before you.

As I shared with our students today, “You are not simply coming to ECSU to earn a degree. We want you to leave ECSU with confidence, with purpose, and with the ability to think critically, lead courageously and serve meaningfully."

Your journey is just beginning, and I am excited to see where it takes you. Welcome to the Viking family, Class of 2030. Your time is now. Your future is waiting. And we are on our way.

Today, I had the privilege of welcoming the newest members of our Viking family to Elizabeth City State University.

Move-In Day is more than a day of boxes, belongings and new beginnings. It is the start of a transformative journey—one filled with discovery, opportunity, relationships and memories that will last a lifetime.

To the Class of 2030: Welcome to ECSU! Your journey starts here, and I am excited to see all that you will accomplish.
