The College of The Albemarle Foundation has received a grant in the amount of $18,083 from the Commonwealth Transfusion Foundation in support of College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program, strengthening workforce development in transfusion medicine and laboratory sciences.

The College of The Albemarle (COA) Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Claudia James Thompson Memorial Scholarship for Teacher Preparation, an endowed scholarship created in her memory, honoring her life, legacy, and lifelong commitment to education. She was a distinguished alumna and dedicated educator.

Established through a generous gift from the James and Thompson families, the scholarship will provide ongoing financial support to students enrolled in College of The Albemarle’s Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation programs. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need, helping ensure future educators have access to the education and training needed to serve their communities.

Today, the College of The Albemarle Foundation hosted the COA Foundation Scholarship Luncheon at COA – Dare, bringing together donors, students, college leadership and community partners to celebrate the impact of scholarships across our region. 💙🧡🐬

Because of the generosity of our donors, hundreds of COA students are able to pursue their educational goals each year without the burden of financial barriers. These scholarships help transform tomorrows not only for our students, but also for the communities they will serve.

Guests heard from student speakers who shared how scholarship support is making a difference in their lives, and we extend our sincere thanks to the many individuals, organizations and partners who continue to invest in the future of College of The Albemarle students.

The COA Foundation is proud to announce the Margaret Louise Harrell Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in honor of Margaret Harrell, a respected businesswoman, mentor, and role model from Currituck County.

Mrs. Harrell, through her leadership at her family’s restaurant, Southland, provided employment and guidance to many young people in the community, instilling the values of hard work, responsibility, and integrity. This scholarship serves as a lasting tribute to her legacy and her belief in the power of education and opportunity.

The scholarship will support Currituck County residents enrolled in a career and technical education program at COA. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
